Just got my 15k service done 4 days ago. I have already done the TSB for the rear diff whine at my 10k service, so this isn't that issue.

When accelerating I get a high pitched whine in 3rd gear around 2,000 to 2,300 or so RPM. This just started and goes away at higher or lower RPMs and does not happen in other gears that I have noticed. I did have my transmission fluid topped off around 5k after having a different issue. Any ideas?

A little more high pitched than the howling issue everyone is talking about when feathering the throttle around 55 mph(before I got it fixed) and it is louder

take it too the dealership have a Tech ride shotgun and take a little spin so they can identify if its a problem, at the very least you've documented it to them as a problem if something happens down the road with it

we haven't identified whether the whine comes from the engine bay, driveline, tires, transmission so its anybodys guess

My brand new 18 4x2 Sport does this, too, though so far it seems to be random, and rare. I think i've heard it maybe 3 times in 250 miles. I haven't tried hard to recreate the issue, but I did look into videos of the diff whine and it's definitely different than that. Posting here to tell you you're not alone, but also to subscribe.

I'm not worried too much about it, but I suppose you never know!

Thanks, let me know if you can narrow it down. Mine is a 2017 Off Road. It has been raining a ton here over the past 24 hours and just started.

Been raining here, too, but I won't blame that. I heard it first when I test drove the car in beautiful conditions. You say 3rd gear, 2-2300rpm. I'll see if I can replicate that, and go from there.

Thanks. It only seems to happen when accelerating in D. If I go into S and limit it to S3 its hard to replicate, but possible

My car is behaving normally now. I heard a quick little whine, but i think in 4th, and i couldn't replicate it.

I'm filing it in the 'drive the car and don't worry about it' folder. If your situation is getting worse, let us know!

I think I might have a similar issue, not sure the best way to describe it but it seems rpm dependent not gear dependent. Interestingly I only hear it when it rains... I haven't brought it in for Toyota to check. Honestly they'd probably never reproduce without driving quite a bit.

I've got an occasional very high-pitched whine that I notice whenever I'm revving it out about 3500 rpm and above, which sounds kind of like what you're describing. Haven't noticed a difference in it during weather conditions. I just pretend its a supercharger as I'm ramming through gears and go about my day.
