Whining noise

Ok, Im ready to take my 2014 v6 to service, I might be picky , but do they all kind of whine ? Like a pulley or tensioner ? Not real bad ,but increases with rpm.

 

Can you provide a video/audio clip?

Any modifications to your truck (especially air intake, exhaust, etc).

Does it do it in park? Or only while actually moving?

Could be a pulley, loose tensioner, bad belt, loose hose, etc.

 

Sounds like maybe a sweaky idler pulley. Pretty common

 

It will do it in park. Stock taco.

 

Have you tried kicking your wife out?

 

Is your ac on while your in park. If so try turning that off and listen. I was having a similar issue until I realized my ac was on

 

I have a whining noise when I have my fan on in the floor/defrost setting at around 1700rpm. I dont hear it when in other fan modes. Noticed it more after I lifted it. Not sure exactly whats causing the whining noise.

 

only good whining comes from a supercharger

 

I have the same noise with my 2011, If you get it checked out, I'd like to know what the dealer says it is

 

It sounds like a supercharger whine, gets checked out saturday, i will post what they say. I thought I would get more jokes from the WHINE question.

 

What did you find out? Mine's doing the same thing.

 

The mechanics at the dealer couldnt hear it. Two of them. I should have let the service manager hear it after I got my truck back. Thought of that afterwards. Basically they did nothing to my truck on three things I wanted checked.

 

Also, It was so busy there I think they blew me off because it was just a check issue on everything. I also have a extended warranty that I am worried about. At least this is on record

 

powersteering pump whine?

 

Mine whines all the time. Gets louder when I mash the pedal down.

 

I thought mine might be the idler pulley after checking my belt. Anyone else have similar issues? I've got an '07 V6 w/ 140k.

 

Another source of whine (if your truck has an automatic) is the pump inside the transmission. My 2011 has a bit of pump whine that sounds like power steering noise. In my case it is most noticeable on a cold start. If you have an automatic, crawl under the truck and have a listen around the front of the transmission.

My 14 FJ, 17 4runner and brothers 12 4runner all have the pump whine. Can usually hear it during hard accleration. Sounds just like my supercharger on my first gen.

 

mine just started this. when cold the power steer makes noise. Once it has warmed up it is ok. This noise is only under load. (when I turn the steering wheel)
