Hi I have a 95 Tacoma 4x4 with a 2.7 and I've had it for about 6 months. It has a very loud power steering whine at all times. It has no leaks and was told it was replaced recently. I got annoyed of it so I bought a brand new pump and the new pump is just as loud as the old pump! Any ideas or suggestions of why that might be or some tricks to fixing it? Thanks!

if its not the pump then its a restriction in the steering itself might be a time for a rebuild or replacement

    talk to tyler

he has a lot of good parts for sale very cheap, but not sure if he has the full steering but he did have a used PS pump so he might have the steering

You might want to check the metal screen that is in your powersteering res. I had a similar problem, that eventually lead to the powersteering pump not working at all. My problem was a clogged metal screen in the res. Worth checking out.

Worth a try, go get a can of Seafoam and put a shot in it, a couple of ounces, and see what happens. Put the rest in your tank.

I completely cleaned out the reservoir with brake clean and then flushed out the power steering system. When I bought the truck it has power steering fluid in it. So when I put the new pump on, I flushed it with ATF. I also noticed that after I put the pump on, it has traces of metal in the fluid now.

I think the metal may have damaged the pump, maybe it was just a cheapo replacement that wasnt as well built as OEM and couldn't handle a little metal in the system. metal will make any pump fail but it usually takes a long time before it wears enough to get noisy again.

you said it was replaced but do you know if it was replaced with a new one, rebuilt one, or a used one from a salvage yard?

I would take the hose loose from the return line and flush the system out in the same manner as a tranny flush and when you see no more metal then replace the pump and you should be good.

to save money try that pump I linked you to from tyler, it came from a working truck so you save money and know its a good unit.
