Has anyone experienced what is best described as a whining or ringing sound on hard turns? I can't tell where the sound is coming from but it seems to be from the front end. The sound lasts for a couple of seconds then goes away. Basically if I take a sharp corner and compress the outside of my suspension on either side it gives me a sound that is like a high pitched ringing. The truck has 6200 miles so I'm hoping there aren't any power steering problems cropping up but my fear leads me this direction. No other associated problems. I have a 3 inch bilstein 5100 lift and 295 70 17 trail grapplers iif anyone is curious. Any help or hints would be much appreciated.

Yeah I just called there to talk to someone and of course the first person I talked to didn't have any idea and everyone else was "busy." Oddly enough I just took it to the dealer for the basic 5000 mile warranty service and not long after is when the sound became prevalent. I heard it once before that but I guess I didn't think much of it until I realized I can actually cause the sound by purposely taking a sharp turn...which I now avoid.

I'll definitely be following up with the dealer but I would have to assume that I'm not only person to hear this sound before.

    Just about to say that.

    Powersteering fluid all the way

take it to a dealer is BAD advice.

If its something like fluid levels and NOT covered under warranty (which basic maintenance is not) you will pay $80 for toyota to tell you your power steering fluid is low

EDIT NM just saw the mileage, if you are having PS problems that early there is something wrong

Yes it's just below max level. Too much perhaps?? I checked while the engine was warm.

I'm not completely sure there's anything wrong with the PS because I'm not experiencing any symptoms beside the sound. Again its only under hard (ish) turns. Could it be related to the slip detection? I've already experienced a less than pleasant occurrence of the VSC kicking in when not wanted.

It not just something like a tire squealing, is it? I noticed mine started doing that at around 6000 miles. These stock tires are pretty crappy.

My '93 Toyota truck did the same thing at full lock. Smeared some grease on the steering stops every oil change, solved it. Never happens on my new truck.

Does it do it stationary with the wheel on hard lock? Is it still making it when you come away slightly from full lock?

no I dont think its the tires. Almost brand new Nitto TGs.

Could it be the brakes? Like the vehicle thinks I'm losing control and is doing something to counteract it? Hmm..

No I've noticed it only happens if I'm going maybe 20 mph or more. The wheel is definitely far from full lock. Just some lean from taking the corner

Tire rub on front cab mounts, or inner fender? See if there are any clean marks in these locations where the rubbing may happen

I have had rubbing issues in the past and it doesn't sound like rubbing. Right now I'm not rubbing the cab mount. (Combination of LR UCAs and a great alignment guy). At this point I'll leave well enough alone since it's really nothing more than a strange sound. Again it sounds mechanical... As though the truck is doing something..it sounds exactly the same every time. Same duration, same pitch. Maybe a sensor?

I just found this thread. Mine '13 does makes the same sound when I take a turn to hard or just turn the steering without even going fast a lot. I thought it was the VSC or something, but I think I'm going to take it to the dealership to have it looked at since its still under warranty to be safe.

I found it was the VSC. Not sure if it has anything to do with my 33" tires. Going to be going with 35s soon so if it gets worse I'll have to find some solution. ..
