1998 tacoma sr5 4x4 auto trans whining while accelerating. Transmission fluid level is good, no leaks. What do you guys think? Almost done rebuilding and getting ready for paint just trying to get some insight.

No lol not at all. Done a rebuild on it, and have no idea what it could be.

Do you have any more details at all? Like where it's coming from, when it starts or stops?

If I'm accelerating it whines, let off the gas it stops. Touch the gas again it starts right back. I can't tell if it is front or back. Thanks for your reply.

Okay, so it's definitely to do with throttle and not wind or road noise. Does it happen in park or neutral or just when making power?

Only in drive on the acceleration pedal. And sometimes when slowing down when on the brake maybe around 10mph-. I have absolutely no idea what it is. Thanks again for replies.

I found out that the noise with mine is fairly normal. But I'm unsure of your problem with it happening in neutral. There are some smart people on here so your question will get answered.

it happened yesterday. I did three things yesterday that could have caused this. One hit a disgusting bump on a gravel road going 40mph, pulling a dead tree in reverse, or crossing a small ravine and did some heavy flexing. I'm leaning towards the bump in the road doing this.
what forum thread would you suggest?

I had the same problem. I had to take out my girlfriend and the noise went away... Been fine ever since.

No I'm just trolling... Could be axles or gearbox winding? Check all fluid levels?

do you think it could be gearbox windup? i drove in 2wheel for miles coming home from my land. I hit a terrible hole in a gravel road going 40. I'm sure thats what did it.

Could be rear diff low on gear oil. Check that and then let me know.

i will do that today, it sounds like its coming from the front end underneath, but its only been me listening, not someone revving it for me. I'll check that today though and let you know.
