    Hey y'all!

I just purchased my first Tacoma last week! I bought a 2012 Crew Cab, 6 spd manual, 4WD TRD and am super stoked about it! As I've been driving around town and up to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg (45 minutes or more) I've noticed a slight whining sound while driving. When the vehicle is in neutral or park, i don't hear any noise. When I'm driving down the road and am in gear I hear the whiny noise, but as soon as I push the clutch in it stops. When I let the clutch out and go back into a gear i hear it again.

Anyone familiar with this? A friend who is a mechanic said it might be the pilot bearing, but from what I've read that may not be the issue. Any experience/advice would be great!

Yeah... as soon as I saw the "whiny noise" part I was going to suggest leaving the wife/girlfriend at home... sorry, couldn't resist either.

Seriously though, bad throwout bearings usually make noise when the clutch is depressed rather than not. I'd wonder if the noise is in the transmission itself maybe?

Maybe you have a supercharger? Have you looked under the hood?

    Wishful thinking, I know ;)

I bought the exact same truck last October. You're not going to like this. It's a very common issue, hopefully you're still under warranty. Here are some links to some good explanations:
