Hey everyone, proud new owner of a 2019 tacoma SR5, drove a short distance today and when I put it in park, noticed a whirring noise, when i put it in any other gear it would stop, but then start again after putting it back in park. Once i went into the store and turned it back on, it was none existent. after a little research and very little mechanic knowledge, some forums on here mentioned something about emissions, but just thought I'd ask myself.

Also noticed a slight throttle increase after i let go of the gas, wondering if it's just the cold or something more serious

    Thanks for any help!

Is this the first automobile you have owned?

When the transmission is in park or neutral, there is no load on the engine so it spins faster (higher rpm). When it is in drive or reverse, there is a load on it so it spins slower (lower rpm).

If it were a manual transmission I'd say the throwout bearing is the culprit. With an auto I'd guess the low rpm is triggering a rattle somewhere. Perhaps a heat shield on the cat or something in the driveline like a worn u joint. Maybe the trans fluid is low?

Can you record a video of the noise and possibly where the sound is coming from (front, back of vehicle, ect.)?

Only happened once since I've had the truck for roughly a month, so I wouldn't say that's the culprit

Your truck is fine. Get some sleep.
