I heard Jim Beam rotates their barrels top to bottom also.

This is Iowa... So yesterday morning there was a dusting of snow on the ground and by the afternoon I was in a t-shirt and worrying about field fires haha.

I'll have to find out what the insurance policy is on waiting for two years for a barrel to age in their Barrel Club.. going out of business or fire or whatever.

I think it would be fun to see what they think about using different finishing casks and if they plan on doing any. Maybe ask about that?

In this humble man's opinion, the biggest potential for great new whiskey comes from more places embracing blending and more creative/effective uses of finishing casks. High West finishes their Double Rye in all sorts of different casks for varying periods of time and they are such a treat to drink.

Also see if they would be interested in doing a single barrel selection in collaboration with a little BBQ rub company called Pitfaced BBQ ;).

I think I recall from the Beam tour that they don't rotate anymore. They did for years, but now they have so many warehouses and need for maximum output that they don't do it anymore. Instead, they blend barrels from different locations to make their signature stuff. Booker's will show you exactly which warehouse locations (and in what ratio) were blended in to the final product.

All of the big distilleries we visited had the elevators in the rackhouses (really old wooden, pulley systems) for when they did rotate barrels, but I think they leave them be, now, for the aforementioned reasons.

Well that’s sad. Hate when money becomes more important that product.

I am guessing they're not doing a lot of rotating yet... I think they're getting ready to release batch #4.
I don't know how many barrels are in a batch etc.. but the one I got this morning was bottle #25 from barrel #129 and the penny taped to the neck says 2018. I don't know if the batch was made in 2018 or if it was just bottled in 18.

So many questions on the list!!

@Misplaced Nebraskan - I redid this and made it more realistic and eliminated the "unobtainable" bottles from the past. I'm not even sure the master Distiller series 1-5 is obtainable at this point... Anyways.. just FYI

That's a lot of black space in there. You better get to hunting and buying. :)

The black space are ones that don't exist. the Green ones are ones that I have that are full. The red ones are ones that I do not have or that I have but are empty.

For example.. the bottom line.. the Winter Jack only ever came out in a 750ML bottle. That's why the rest of the row is blacked out.

I think I'm just going for one of each variety, not sizes... I did find a Jack Sinatra Century though... for 1200... :bananadead:

As for Master Distillers, I only got #4 and that was from a duty free in Mexico iirc.

yea.. the Sinatra Century will likely have to come off my list.. and I hear ya about the sizes.. I would be happy with all 750ML but things like the Gold 27 and the Sinatra only come in 1L.... and of course I will never give up on the 3L No 7! HAHA

With a trip pending this weekend to the distillery here in Iowa my JD budget is on hold LOL

I know I have had my #6 Master Distillers for awhile.. so I am not sure if they stopped that series now or what.

Should add some cells that show a legend like Black and in the cell to the right Not Available and so on. For us uneducated Jack people. Or should I just say I don't know Jack.

    :rofl:HA I kill me.

I'll look around the secondaries for Century just to see but that may be an empty bottle search if anything sadly.

One of the other things I would point out is there may be some of these bottles available such as the green label bottles in the various sizes but I have not seen them personally since they are only sold in like 6 states. Perhaps a Texas based shopper can confirm or deny their existence.
