Hey guys, I've got a weird sound that's recently developed. It only happens once the truck is hot and only happens in park or neutral. I turned on and off the fan and AC and those didn't change anything. Turning the wheel didn't change it either, so I don't think it's anything to do with the power steering. It sounds exactly the same as this 4runner:

Any ideas? I don't have any engine mods and 140k miles. All fluids have been replaced over the past year or two. My first thought was the belt bullies, but it doesn't sound like it's coming from that area. I do have new pullies on order since I haven't replaced them.

    Thanks

Try this if you want to isolate it to the specific pulley. Hopefully it's an idler making this noise and not something more expensive (like an alternator bearing or PS pump bearing).

Right on, really hoping it's a pully. I'll keep you guys posted once I swap them out. Should be here Wednesday or Thursday.

    Cheers

Been a while, but still have the noise. I replaced the pullies (all 4) and although they needed replacing, the noise is still there. It only seems to happen once the truck is up to temp. Turning the wheel and running the AC or fan seem to have no effect on it. And again, it only happens in P and N. Any other thoughts?

    Thanks

If you give the truck a little gas and raise the RPM the same amount as in P or N, does it still do it? You will need a buddy you trust to help you.

Maybe it’s Transmission related, if it does not still make the noise?

    Have you changed the belt?

Try taking a spray bottle with water and spray the belt on a pulley while it's making the noise. If it goes away, you can be pretty sure it's belt related

Following up here. Still have the noise going on. I changed the belt, and when I rev the engine it goes away but then starts again as soon as the rpm's get back down to idle. It only happens on long drives too, such as camping trips where I'm driving for several hours. I'll never hear it around town or sub-30-minute drives. It does sound like it's coming from the transmission though.
