Just to get everyone on the same page again... I think we're talking about a number of different "noises", which is fine at this point. Sure would be nice to have names for the different problems. "Cross wind whistle" or "door seal squeak" or "windshield noise".

Very true, tough part is figuring out which those any one of actually has. Some days I think its a "door seal squeak", other days it sounds more like a "mirror whistle". Who knows, could have both, or maybe neither. But yes, we should be better about describing exactly what we think it is or jumping to another, appropriate thread for that noise.

I KNOW I have two separate issues going on (which is also why it IS nice to cover multiple things in the same thread- just my opinion). It may add a few more posts to scroll through, but at the same time it keeps us all here.

The cross wind thing literally sounds like a kazoo at full volume and it sounds like it's between the mirror and the windshield. And then I have the quietly squeaking seal issue on the drivers window six inches from my left ear. I've never had such a quiet sound annoy me like this one. And it's so damn elusive! Like trying to chase a mouse.

I'm hesitant to drown my seal in WD40. I did get some spray silicone to try.

So, this is the best way to explain the noise I am experiencing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XBIIuLJ9yk It is a youtube video that is an exact replica. In fact, if you get on youtube and do a search for "tacoma window noise" there are multiple videos.

This is exactly my issue as well, its down right annoying. Thankfully it doesn't start until 60mph and isn't constant until 70-75mph! I'll give the deflectors a try cause I asked Toyota about it today and they said there is nothing they can do about it.

Sadly I kind of gave up on trying to find a fix for awhile. Luckily for me I've only heard it a few times over the last several months. I should probably get back into it soon. Maybe this weekend I'll start tinkering again.

I just did a little reading and came across a thread about Hilux/Fortuner (Tacoma/4Runner in U.S.) owners having this same problem. Apparently Toyota has issued a fix for it, at a dealership I'm assuming. As far as I know Toyota doesn't have anything like this for the U.S. (could be wrong).

It is inquired in the thread if this will be fixed for an out of warranty vehicle, but was never answered. This is what I will focus on next for a fix. Curious what a dealer here in the states would do if shown this.

My noise is the "crosswind kazoo" or reed noise. Happened again today. Only did it when it was not raining and it is definitely the door seal. Pushing out on passenger window and it changes pitch. Push hard enough and it stops. It's the first 8-10 inches of the door seal that is vibrating and causing the noise. I had some extra 3/8" wiring loom laying around and I cut a 10" piece and placed it between the door seal and the door window frame at the bottom front of the door. Test drove and no noise. It definitely appears to be a design fault with the door seal in that it is not thick enough in that section and as a result, there is too much play. When you hit a cross wind at high enough velocity, the seal vibrates and we get the kazoo. I see a couple small pieces of foam tape from the factory adhered in the middle of the seals. I am going pick up some thicker foam gasket with peel adhesive on one side and put that between the 2 layers of door seal to remove some play. I expect that will fix it. Another alternative (if even possible) would be to adjust the top of the door inward to apply more pressure to the seals. I am thinking the foam tape fix would be quickest and easiest.

May have found a potential culprit for the Kazoo noise. Don't know if it's been mentioned yet. I noticed on the lower corners of the windshield there is a loose thin plastic piece. It seems like it's just snapped in there. No question air is gonna get under it at highway speed. And at just the right angle, it could vibrate just like a reed in a clarinet. I have a 2014. Check for yourselves to see if you have the same plastic piece. See if it wiggles. There's significant play in both sides on mine when I just press it with my finger. Something tells me it can't be this simple, but it makes perfect sense. It should be able to be tested easily with a little packaging tape.

Harp, check out post #115. Is that the piece you're talking about? If so, he later states in post #126 that it was not the problem for him. I suppose it could be in some situations though. Just letting you know.

What I recently did was add some of that door seal material I mentioned in this thread to the weather stripping/door seal. I have not yet been in any windy conditions so I don't know if it works yet.

I've got 2015 that I bought three months ago, never had any noise at all. Then the other day we had a front blew in with 35 mph winds, zero noise till it was a cross wind on the passenger side and it sounded like yawls recordings except it was a lot louder, as soon as I turned where it wasn't a cross wind it was gone and I haven't heard it seance. but its been a odd year for here and hasn't been very windy.

Yeah I know I will! I was going to tell the Toyota guys on my next oil change and saw this and knew it was going to happen again.

Well, shit. I appreciate the heads up :) Ha I thought maybe that had been addressed as it's a pretty obvious loosely fitting piece. The search goes on. I did however find a fix for the annoying noise by my ear. For me, it was just the window rubbing on an inner rubber piece. The piece you can "dimple" with your finger from inside the truck with the door closed. It's a soft rubber, not one of the harder seals. It just needs to be lubed with some 303 from time to time.

2013 DCSB same Kazoo/Crosswind noise. Definitely going to be following this one as this has driven me nuts for over 2 years...

2015 DCSB. Happened to me two weeks ago while driving to a charity event, then happened again today on the way home from work while passing a semi at 75mph. I think i'll have Toyota fix that on my next oil change.

Since having my windshield replaced I occasionally notice a noise like in the video, only in crosswinds. It's not as persistent or severe, and only on the passenger side. I've noticed the roof weather stripping, where it meets at the windshield is more raised on the passenger side with a gap. It's clipped into the retainer but doesn't sit down as far as I feel it should, or like it does on the driver's side. I'll try using some butyl tape to see if I can secure it down better to eliminate the gap.
