exactly, its like the front grill gasket tea kettle sound on the 12 - early 14's.... 3 foot long piece of 1/4in dripper line and a minute of your time to slide it in and problem solved.... yet people were going to the dealer spending hours of time and frustration for the tsb for an ENTIRE grill assembly to be replaced.\

Granted yes, if they have door seals that are guaranteed to fix the issue and you are under warranty then go for it, but really, at this point just do the fix yourself.

Possible to post a quick write-up with pictures so others like me can do it ourselves? I would prefer to do it myself instead of going to the dealership even though my 15' is still covered under warranty.

    Thanks!

Do you have a roof rack, as I think this is the same noise I have and it sounds like it is above

I recently purchased a '16 Tacoma and discovered the infamous whistle. Funny thing is, I had a friend whom had purchased a then brand new '06 Xrunner and he had the exact issue. Fortunately for us at the time, I happened to have some high speed duct tape handy. We quickly found the issue to be a poor windshield seal and sealed it using the duct tape. We drove non stop from Houston to Los Angeles with no more nasty whistle. I find it hard to believe that 10 years later, I still notice the same damn sound coming from the windscreen, yet when I google it, nobody has a clear answer.

Just drove to MT from Phx. Used the technique on page 7, post 29 of this thread related to 1/4 in drip line in the door weather stripping. Worked like a charm at 80 mph with cross winds - no noise. Next time at the dealership, I will point it out and see if they have, or are willing to develop, a Toyota fix.

Havent read the whole thread. just wanted to post my dealership just fixed the noise problem in my truck. it was between the door and the cab.

they have a new weather strip out that fixes the problem. mine was going on for over 3 years.

hope that helps anyone with the same problem. i have a 2013 Tacoma Prerunner

Was there a Toyota part number on the repair receipt? If yes, please post.

first number i think is the original seal 671251

the part they installed is 67861-04052 weatherstrip,FR this was for the front right (passenger) door

    hope that helps.

forgot to mention. the noise is exactly like the youtube video link at the beginning of this thread. i have had it in about 15 times, rode with several techs because they couldn't make it do the noise themselves. after the second windshield sealing failed the last tech used blue tape to seal off the door and the passenger window. the noise stopped and started again when i took the tape off that covered the seam between the door and the cab.

the noise was always on the freeway at 65+ mph and usually when it was cold like in the morning.

I had the same part nos. installed on my 2015 ACLB, with no improvement. It goes back to Toyota next week for another "fix"... We'll see what they do.

just a suggestion, before you take it back in tape the seam between the door and the cab with 2" blue tape and see if it stops. Mine was the worse in the mornings on the freeway.

if it stops and you go and take it back in and they try to fix something totally unrelated like the windshield again you can kind of keep them on point.

that was my biggest frustration, i would tell them is coming from the passenger window and they would reseal my windshield wasting another 4 to 6 hours of my time.

btw if i rolled my window down even 1/8" the noise stopped. so the window was actually pushing the door frame and unsealing it. it may also be that the window is adjusted too high and by adjusting it down to the right height keeps it from pushing the frame and unsealing it.

anyways that was the issue with mine, good luck on yours. i love my truck just hated that noise

Since Toyota didn't have a fix before my last 3k mi. trip, I used the 1/4 tube fix, between the door and the weatherstripping as described previously. It worked like a charm. No kazoo in my wife's ear at 85mph with some good, stiff crosswinds!

It will be interesting to see what Toyota comes up with as a more formal fix.

Today was the first i have heard of a Kazoo sound. mine sounds like a harp seal having sex. arch arch arch.. ararararch.

Do you have the sound when the window is down even slightly? I'm a design engineer mostly robotics i know a little bit about mechanical and materials. if the truck wasn't still under warranty i would pull the door apart and adjust the glass down a bit on the raising frame.

i know in my case its the glass that is pushing the frame away from the cab when its rolled up. which allows the wind to bleed through and cause the noise.

if the 1/4 tube is working for you basically creating more compression between the door and the cab, and the new weather strip hasn't worked, and it does stop when you lower the window. definitely suggest adjusting the window down a tad

I had the same issue for a year! and every time I went for oil change they would tell me that Toyota is working on recall or resolution how to fix it blah blah blah... So 2 weeks ago or so I went for whistle noise in my engine as they call it Ping which was also addressed few times but my patience ran out. Talked to GM they were quick to fix the window whistle and ping noise in the engine.

They have a fix for everything but for some reason they don't want to waste time on this kind of stuff I think. My dealership is always packed...

This, I think, is the very reason people should just fix it themselves and stop wasting time at a dealership. The fix costs a couple bucks and a few minutes of your time, as opposed to being free and up to several hours of BS at a dealer. Unless you are at a dealer already for something else, don't waste your time. Everything is outlined in this thread on what to do, with pics and all.

This isn't directed at you Makavas, just a general update for people waiting on a dealership fix.

Folks, my 2015 dclb has had the "reed noise" (as the regional tech described it) on both driver and passenger doors. Initially they used vacuum tube to thicken the factory door seals which lasted a month and it was back. With the promise of a "completely new and redesigned door seal" in the works I hounded them. Finally the new seals came and within a week the noise was back. I'm back to hounding both Toyota Canada and the dealership. I can live with the noise if they compensate me in some way. Has anyone else gotten any sort of compensation from their noise ordeals?

A little bit of a bump, but I've been searching here for a couple years, just found this thread.

I had the noise just like the video on the first page. I was almost positive after reading here that my problem was the hood or windshield, had the kazoo sound off when the windows were down, and it sounded like it was coming from the engine bay (now I know the hood). Last night when I got home, I ran some 1/4" tubing (split) along the front edge of the hood above the grill and inside the weather stripping over the headlights (couldn't get it to go all the way through the stripping over the grill). Very windy today, definitely ideal conditions for the kazoo band to come out and play, only a couple times I heard the kazoo from strong crosswinds at 75-80 mph, and it was very muffled. I cracked the windows just to double check, could still hear the kazoo. Anyway, I'm going to mess with a few solutions and see what works best, I'll post up what I find.

Edit: I get that there are a few different issues in this thread, and there may be two different noises coming from the grill, but mine sounded identical to the video on the first page.
