White Paint? Is it Clear Coated?

    Not witholding a thing. It was a 2001 RAV4 in black, owned it since it was new and it did not have clear coat over the black.

    The 70's model cars I owned did not have clear coat, clear coat was not even a thought in the 70's.

    It is documented that Toyota does (did?) not clear coat non-metallic paints.

    I suppose that I have only ever needed minor paint correction then. I will say that I bought my 2006 Tacoma last year and it looked like a piece of printer paper, completely matte finish. It most likely had only seen an automatic car wash and never been waxed as it was a work vehicle before I bought it. I used a clay bar and some cheap polishing compound from walmart by hand and now it looks great. It took me about 4 days and a half a tub of mineral ice on my hand and arm afterward.
