Generally a water jacket passage that's leaking into a combustion chamber is VERY noticeable. It looks like a car smokescreen from a James bond movie. Its heavy, white, cotton ball thick smoke.

If your coolant level isn't changing and there isn't any muck in your radiator or overflow tank, I think you just have a case of the new car jitters. (Muck being copper colored or silver colored flakes or brown syrup, this is what most snake oils look like in your system)

Ditto. The white/sweet smoke is a telltale sign of coolant leaking into the engine. You can usually tell if there are perpetual bubbles in the radiator as well, and if there is a frothy, foamy head in the oil.

I have had this happen twice before as a result of a bad thermostat causing the engine to overheat. It was just enough to warp the head and make the gasket leak. Needless to say, I swap thermostats every time I change my coolant nowadays.

    Sorry to hear.

Borrow a block compression test kit from your local auto parts store like OReilly or Autozone. You have to purchase a bottle of test fluid for around $8. You drain some coolant to make headspace in the radiator, then use the kit to draw air from the radiator headspace through the test liquid. No color change means headgasket is not leaking into the combustion chamber. Kit is very sensitive and will detect a leak before you will see bubbles in the radiator. Some shops do a similar test with a multi gas meter. Basic concept is the cylinder pressure is higher than the radiator which runs around 15lbs, so if the gasket is blown, combustion gas will be forced into the coolant and is detected in the radiator headspace....same thing that causes the bubbles.

Edit: You have to start with a cool engine so you can remove radiator cap, so run it long enough to open the thermostat.

White smoke from exhaust, excluding the early morning condensation vapors, is easy to determine the difference between two notoriously infamous smokes.

Coolant smoke whisps away. Or evaporates off quickly.

Oil smoke lingers for quite a while before dispersing, and can also be in thick clouds. I.E. Smoke screen.

My last 4Runner would do this every once in awhile, but the coolant level would slowly drop. Ended up being the radiator tank had the slightest leak.

White, 'sweet' smelling smoke? In the old days, we used to make it a point to have a bag of Doritos on hand...

Freshly showered, or out of the pool wouldn't taste nearly as bad as coolant saturated exhaust. Vehicles' equivalent to swamp ass.
