So let me get this straight....The weeks of round the clock news coverage because she sang really well = a grave side service and the speed scrolling list of names that might show up on the news on Veterans/Memorial Day for soldiers/sailiors/airmen/marines who have died??

Not to mention- She made a choice to abuse her body for her own "benefit"-to get high. Folks in the military abuse their bodies for OTHERS (including death if need be). Trying to put her charity work in the same category is disrespectful (even more so when you consider the karma/PR support she was attempting to buy with those donations)

It's sad she died and that there are so many questions about the way she lived her life-I hope she is at peace now. BUT it in NO way, shape, or form warrants the amount of national level coverage it is and will continue to receive.

Great comment Brunes, and Whippersnapper's "Game of Thrones," pic a couple pages back regarding people rushing now to treat her like a saint is spot on too.

This women wasted a gift and destroyed herself from within... not too mention made a complete ass out of herself for the past 12 years. Nothing to honor in that. Nothing. Watching the media once again fall all over itself to tell us what a wonderful person she was is expected--stupidity sells. Celebrities and those that worship them are wasting every breath they take.

    I'll pray for her soul.

I don't like to see anybody die.

It's pretty amazing though how she was made fun of and ridiculed just a few weeks and months ago in the media. Now they're glamorizing her life.

I thought your quote was that nobody forced him to have drugs. Yes, he had a DOCTOR administer the drugs. He hired the doctor to know when to stop. But I'm not going to argue with you over this. It's been through the court system, the truth came out and I'm not one to judge others.

But perhaps you know more about this than I do or have the right to judge. I don't have that right.

No one can possibly believe everyone joins the military for noble reasons. I know far too many who’ve joined for lifelong benefits and discounts, whether it be for themselves or for their families (just like a majority of other people on different career tracks). Some were flat out shocked when they actually got deployed. I know others who were never on the front lines of anything. Are they still as noble as the rest? My own father begged to be put on the front lines in Korea, but was kept back as a map-reader while my uncles were front-of-the-line in Vietnam. Is my dad still as noble? And how noble is my ex’s husband who came back from war a drug addict and busted her face a few times?

Whitney Houston’s charitable work is immense, so yes, she’s helped changed lives in that particular area. There are plenty of celebrities who haven’t done a single thing for charities, and even more regular citizens who’ve done even less. Over 170 million albums sold means more than a few people in this world connected with her music, too. Sorry, she’s not a typical crack head, and it’s tragic she ended up like that. Seems the consensus here is to compare apples to oranges and then decry those apples having a place in the food chain.

What’s the suggestion for honoring all of our fallen? A 24/7 channel dedicated to death and the wars? And how far back are you willing to begin this? There have been many more wars during our Native American occupation than those in the last decade. My bigger question is at what point will you allow people in other areas of life to get some sort of credit for the good they were able to accomplish? Or will the military be an elitist society that looks down on everyone else who didn’t enlist or get drafted?

This thread started out as a question about her death, and turned into a “military is better than…” thread. It didn’t even need to be brought up.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a person on this site who isn’t grateful for everything the military has done and will do. That goes the same for people in every other career where bodily harm is an everyday possibility. You’d also have troubles finding anyone outside of this forum who denies the existence of the recent wars and people who’ve lost their lives. I’m just floored how this thread took such a heavy turn off-course.

Im not arguing just stating facts

Yes it has been through a crooked court system filled with liberal judges, they knew MJ had a drug addiction for many years, they was not happy enough that MJ lost his life, they had to ruin the Docs life as well

The right to judge conversation comes up anytime someone wants to try to use it to their advantage, yet most of the time the person using that in conversation has no faith at all

Do you believe? I dont really care if you do or not, it does not matter

MJ was an addict and it was obvious to everyone that MJ could not do a thing about it because he had been an addict for way too long, not only was he an addict he was a pervert as well

Whitney was in the same situation MJ was in, the only way a person can change at that point is to remove themselves from the people and the money that supports their addiction for the rest of their life

Individual responsibility is the problem, nobody wants to be responsible enough to have to pay for their actions, it is always someone elses fault

Am I the only one who doesn't really care?

I was more saddened by the fact that the old man that played Charlies grandfather in Charlie and the chocolate factory had died (the original movie).. She was a drug addict, she knew the risks.

On par with how the mainstream media sensationalizes events such as Whitney's passing I'd say .
