Bought our 2003 Base Tacoma new for less than $12,000, still running great, just passed 200,000 miles last week. Great Truck!
Fly a 1948 Piper without electrical system, great airplane. It's a hand prop airplane with magneto ignition system.
Don't use all the electronic stuff on our 2022 Tundra, purchased it to mainly tow our travel trailer.

I wanted simple and found it in 2016 sr5. Upgraded suspension and happy. People like different things. I find dash iPads obnoxious.

I took peek at 4th gen here. Very busy dash. I don’t want to be at mercy of motherboards and software engineers for my truck to run any more than I already do with my 2016 sr5.

I don't think Toyota needs a CUV based pick up, which would most likely be built around the Corolla Cross. Maybe if they built one over Subaru. I think that would be more fitting and might get more intrest branded as a Subaru brat, Subaru needs something interesting to add to their line up. I don't think it would sell big numbers as a Toyota or Subaru but I think it would do better at Subaru, and also benefit the brand image.

I'd rather see Toyota do a BOF short wheel base platform that could support a regular cab pick up, and a 2dr SUV. That way the platform could be more versatile. I don't forsee that happening.

The BRAT idea is interesting. I’ll keep an eye out for these Hyundai’s on the beach. I saw a State Parks Explorer buried up the axles at Natural Bridges a few years ago. The SCFD Tacoma’s and city and state full-size trucks always seem to do fine. This SC almost looks lifted and definitely with more aggressive tires than OEM.

Neighbor down the road had a Maverick, couple weeks ago a Chevy Silverado High Country took its place. Think people are going to realize (like the Subaru Baja) that 4D CUV based pickups are about useless.

Toyota already has a cheap truck in their lineup, it is the base model SR, assuming the Xtra Cab 2WD models will be sub $30K. For a “basic” run around truck, that is it. No need to go any lower just to save the customer a couple grand if that.

Yes it looks like it's lifted. I saw another picture of one that was still equipped with OE tires and didn't have the same stance.

Let’s also not forget that Toyota was/is way behind the times when it came to “technology”.

    my first gen doesn’t have:
    1. Power door locks
    2. Power windows
    3. Power seats
    4. Power mirrors
    5. Belt tensioner … it’s a fucking manual ratchet
    6. Abs
    7. Dimming mirrors

not to mention modern stuff like any sort of camera or keyless system and traction control/crash avoidance. My 3rd gen has all of that and I love it because it’s way more with the times … drum brakes and all

The first gen will for sure have less problems because of that but that’s also a punishment box because of it.

My 2nd gen has ABS and I guess it's got a belt tensioner, but none of that other stuff. That's what I like about it. I'd prefer crank windows, I saw a 22 Ram 3500 dually RC diesel advertised. That truck had crank windows and a manual transfer case. The two most appealing features, I don't need a dually, and I didn't want to fool with the DEF system on a truck I don't really need. Sometimes I think I should have got it.

New vehicles drive nice but I rather avoid all the electronics and radar driving aides.

If Toyota did build a basic pick up manual windows and seats would be a great feature to have.

Hahahah you ALL bitched about the 3rd gen drum brakes in 2016 and now pine away for carburetors, AM radios, hand crank windows (why not starting as well like a Model T?) manual choke, no AC/PS, manual locking hubs, etc.

GTFO with all of that. Rose tinted glasses are strong in this thread but no one would really buy this vehicle if it was built today.

Yep. If this shit actually sold, you’d see WT-trim Chevy trucks, vinyl floor fords, and SR-level Tacomas all over. You don’t. Because people pine for the idea of simplicity but buy luxury

Lol actually you DO see the SR trim owners here on TW all of the time - posting threads like "How do I install <higher trim level luxury tchotchki> into my SR and Shame on Toyota for not making this standard!"

Proof that they bought in to the "simplicity" idea until they found that their SR didn't have interval wipers, remote door locks, better dash/hvac, fog lights, turn signal mirrors, LED headlights, etc...

    Very true.

I went from a XLT 302A to a XL 101A just for the vinyl floor. I'm an outlier in this regard. I'd go crank windows if it was an option, and would prefer manual locking hubs. If I wanted luxury I'd buy a Cadillac.

Just say No... to luxury trucks.

Some of you must be South Pole elves. Angry.
I just prefer simpler. You don’t. My 16 sr5 has basic look compared to pics of techno hell in 4th gen. Some of us look at that and are sad and we wonder if one day all we can get is some 14 inch tv screen glaring back at us.

And my 99 is far simpler than your 16 sr5. You tech bros can have it

I think that's standard or part of a pkg.
