Who’s getting the worst 3G MPGs and why?

Body on frame and a drive shaft is what makes a truck a truck. Cars can can be BOF and also have a drive shaft, but that alone does not make a car a truck.

El Caminos and Rancheros were built from existing car designs.

Take an E-Series Transit, G Van, or MBZ Sprinter chasis and upfit a truck body on it. That would still be a van, and not a truck. Although a lot of people will refer to it as a truck. Vans are also BOF with a drive shaft. With the exception of the Ram Promaster, which is front wheel drive no drive shaft, and BOF.

 

17.4 average mpg as of half a tank.

That's about 60% city 40% hwy, with RCI steel skids, steel sliders and 32 inch tires. If I drag raced it at every light, mpg would drop drastically.

 

people don't like the ridgeline because it's a unibody "truck". most trucks are body on frame. plus the ridgeline looks like an SUV. pretty sure it's also front wheel drive.

 

Hilux started life as a Toyota crown which was a car platform.

Where does it say a truck has to be BOF and can't be front wheel drive?

I say it, that's how I define a truck. I don't know if that is an accurate definition of a truck, but that's what I go by.

I guess any truck could be derived from a car platoform, if it's a body on frame truck with a drive shaft lol

I think there have been a few FWD truck designs throughout history.

 

Some heavy duty electric trucks have a motor at each wheel, no driveshaft. Open pit mining electric dump trucks are starting to go that way.

By definition a truck is a "wheeled vehicle with heavy motor used for transporting goods, materials, or troops".

That would includes pickups, vans and SUVs.

It would also include the Ridgeline.

 

Over the past 2 years I have a avg of 16 mpg (tracked by fuelio). But the vast majority of my driving is stop and go or idling in parking lots waiting for my kids. Im sure if I actually drove highways I would be seeing much higher mpg.

 

Those heavy duty trucks with electric motors at all 4 wheels, most likely started out as front engine rear wheel drive truck.

When did those electric trucks first go into production, I would imagine their predecessor was powered by front engine RWD trucks.

I will go by the plurality supposition definition that trucks are body on frame vehicles with a drive shaft, as the majority of vehicles defined as trucks are BOF and RWD.

What's the difference in removing the drive train and installing four electric motors in the design and rotating an engine 90 degrees to drive front wheels?

What about an AWD Ridgeline?

 

Yeah you can call a Ridgeline a truck, I would. It's not body on frame, but I think Honda engineered the vehicle to function as a truck.

I would recommend that if you’re driving to get great mpg? May be you would be happier with a smaller car that is designed to have great mpg?
Worrying about mpg has got to be ruining your enjoyment of the truck.
Sure I hate the $80-100 fill ups. But I knew exactly what I was buying when I purchased this truck.
It definitely wasn’t for the mpg!
When I first purchased this truck fill ups were $40-50 (that was great)
The problem is Not mpg. The problem is Cost per Gallon!
Let’s hate on the Real cause of our pain not the symptoms!
Our economy is crashing! Inflation is going crazy! And it isn’t because of my mpg.

So just drive it like you stole it! Enjoy the ride!
If that’s not possible get something that makes you happy!
Heaven knows we have enough things to be unhappy about.

You are saying none of the above are vehicles designed to haul cargo?
The Ridgeline has a much higher payload than the Tacoma.
You are applying zero logic.

My opinion... Any vehicle with an open bed that can transport cargo not suitable for an enclosed cab (think dead animal, load of bulk manure, half ton of loose gravel) is, to me, a truck.

 

I’m looking for the person with the worst MPg, per the title of the thread, not the best. I’d like to burn a little more myself.

 

Some don't know that a 'truck' originated from modifying automobiles such at the Model T to suit a more utility purpose, such as carrying dead animals, loads of turds and gravel... it is nothing new to have a vehicle that started as a car, end up as a truck...

 

EL Camino is a car.

Sport Trac, Avalache, Rivian are SUVs with a bed, built on truck frames.

Ridgeline, and Maverick are CUVs with a bed built on car platforms.

an SUV is a utility vehicle based built on a similar size light truck chassis. Most if not all manufactures of BOF SUVs, share the same chasis code as their light trucks.

CUVs are crossover utility vehicles based on similar passenger car platforms shared by the same manufacturer.

These are the terms, and classifications the the auto industry set forth to designate different types of vehicles.

SUVs and CUVs are not classifed by the industry as trucks.
