Just wondering how you like the setup. I’ve been running 4.88s to spin my 285/75/16s for some time now. I’m at a point where I’m tired of the hassles of running heavy tires/wheels and would like to switch to something lighter. I know the engine will rev a little higher on the highway but I don’t think that’s a big deal personally

2900 rpm at 70 sounds pretty good for a 4 cyl. It's not going to be much different from what you have now though. The 33's measure about 1.2" larger than the tires you're considering switching to. The difference in rpm at 70 mph is really only about 110 higher.

Going with an SL tire when you downsize will help. Pretty sure all the 285/75s are LT.

Man I would love your gearing with my 255/75/17s 4-ply DuraTracs!

    Even 255/80/R17 if you want a 34”

On my 285/75/16s with the 1st ratio on the manual it’s a dream. Truck will drive it self on obstacles.

I’m looking to shed some serious weight. The rate I go through wheel bearings and other suspension components is pretty ridiculous for the age and mileage of the truck. I’m looking at the scs 5 wheels compared to the rock crushers I have. It’ll be a HUGE reduction in weight. But I’m thinking this could be a good time to make the switch to 17s. There are some interesting sizes available in 17s. On the other hand the more “fun” sizes with some aggressive tread land you in the D/E load tires which end up being almost double the weight of factory stuff. I’m really trying to find a good compromise here but I am also leaning towards pizza cutters. I was seriously considering pizza cutters previously but 255/85/16 is practically the only size and options were limited. It seems as of now they are more abundant

    I’d still go 17, my 17s are 32” pizza cutters, 4-ply.
The mold it seems is shared with the 34” pizza cutters also,

Lots of c or d ply in 17” vs 16…

I love 16” 255/80s but the old Coopers were the only d tires and they have been discontinued for a couple years now.
