I've had my truck for just a year and half and like many my biggest complaint is power and transmission hunting. I have a tune on it and that helps a lot but the "you need to re-gear, it will change your life" hanging over my head kinda sucks.

I got a used GX460. Excellent vehicle off road and on. Definitely more capable and more powerful than a Tacoma.

I didn’t like soccer mom looks, but I pretty much got rid of that.

Love mine. No issues with computers, glitches, smoking on inclines, etc. Drive 1,000 miles to the Rubicon, Moab, or Johnson Valley, beat the piss out of it, and drive home. Can pass people all day, will cruise at 80mph with hands and feet off of the wheel and pedal, all while getting ~17mpg. Could of bought a Jeep which is a way better platform for crawling if you have the money, but have always been a Toyota boi.

I like my 2019 TRD Off-road DCLB. Every vehicle is the sum of many compromises. You don’t buy a Tacoma because it is “fast.” Mine tows my 6x10 enclosed trailer with 2 motorcycles inside just fine, although I wish the towing fuel mileage was a bit better than 12-13 mpg. My Tacoma feels like a sports car compared to the full sized trucks I have owned. Gonna keep mine till my kids take my keys away.

These are the perfect trucks for me.

Love my current Tacoma, and thoroughly enjoyed my previous 3rd gen.

I am easy to please. However, no other mid-size truck does it for me. Tacoma only in that regard.

Considering that Im new in the tacommunity and haven't done anything to it besides basic maintenance, it's a nice little truck. I love it, plus it came with a cool front grille from the dealership I got it from and some window deflectors. I don't think I'd trade it for anything anytime soon, especially after seeing the builds some guys here in TW have. It'll be a fun project for sure.

Definitely ALOT of nice looking 3rd gens here. I am surprised there are so many 5 on the rating poll though. I like mine and its definitely way better then the competition, so I gave it a 4, but perfect truck? Come on, no truck is perfect.

Edit: Thanks to some convincing from americancheese, I've change my mind, the Tacoma is perfect. Changed my vote to reflect this newfound understanding.

Or people *shocker* just have different opinions. Motor has plenty of power if you aren't afraid of the gas pedal. I love my manual transmission, smoothest shifting one I've owned. No issues so far in 25k and I've beat the hell out of my truck. My only complaint is the rear leaf springs being relatively weak (albeit after a lot of abuse) but the aftermarket has us more than covered for those looking to upgrade. It's obviously not perfect, but I wouldn't rather be driving anything else for the price. People have already echoed the sentiment these trucks don't seem to do any one thing great, but they do everything a midsize should do well enough for most people to be happy.

welllll ya, I wanted to buy a midsized truck and the Tacoma is the best in that class and number 4 says "Good truck with some quirks, no current competitor offers enough capability to make a change" Note the section in bold.

These trucks aren't really designed for bigger tires, and never have been, otherwise we wouldn't need to start cutting cab mounts with 33"+ tires. The auto's are geared just fine for the stock 30.6" tires. Can't blame the truck for something that people opt to add aftermarket. Bigger tires necessitate different gearing to maintain stock performance on 100% of vehicles.

I've found that using the skinny pedal solves both gear hunting and low power issues, maybe its just you?

Bro, midsize trucks are not design for a permanent loads to be added, they are made for that one time a year you tow a trailer. Also what truck are you driving that doesn't lose power when you reduce the final drive gearing?

The truck is designed to handle the payload that it was designed for. If payload is one of your many gripes, the Tacoma is a hilariously poor choice, but that's not what it's designed for. There are trucks designed for that, full size diesel trucks, which this is not. Something something square peg in a round hole is what I'm sensing. Much easier to get a round peg, or buy some stuff to make that hole square if you really want to.
