Yeah there's nothing wrong with the transmission (besides weak ass gearing) it's the cruise control that hunts for gears. I just took a 500 mile trip on flat ground (midwest) with a small TT, and cruise was unusable if there was any headwind at all. With my foot I could maintain reasonable gear shifting. Can't wait for 5.29s

Otherwise I wouldn't trade it for another brand. I've already been there done that. Sticking to Toyota even if it takes mods to drive normal

Was that a Forester or a Crosstrek? I thought it was a Forester. The swing out is way to much, BOF if you want a swing out, I don't make the rules.

    I really like mine.

It does not ride quite as nice as my Tundra, but I still like it.

The TW fan club is being rough on him...?

    Probably not.

He's busy thinking of $hit to post about his truck...maybe?

Can there be an option 6? I’m not a mechanic or an engineer or whatever else so I don’t really know and/or care if it’s really technically the best in the whole wide world. I feel like any comparable vehicle is going to be just that: comparable. It’s a crapshoot from one clone of a truck to another what the individual results will be since there are over a million different variables at any given time. At the end of the day, I’m happy driving my truck simply coz I like it.

I've had mine for about 13 months now. Some quirks, sure. But, overall I love its capability. It does everything I need it to do. I've driven it through the Smokies and it's a champ.

Stock height& tires. If I set my cruise to about 67/68 on the highway I can get 24/mpg.
In a truck this size that's pretty damn good!

So wait a minute. You’re bitching that Toyota didn’t install low enough gears because all of the shit you bolted to your truck?

Why would you mod a truck just to cruise the freeway?

Hell mine is stock other than tires and I try to avoid the freeway/interstate as much as possible.

Was reading this recently, couple in a heavily modded 90s truck, down with a snapped axle, dealer gave them a 3rd Gen to run around in waiting on repairs.

    https://desktoglory.com/dream-come-true/

“We filled the backseat of the truck with our trekking packs, tent, sleeping bags, and a couple of paper bags full of food and zipped off to cottage country. One of the benefits of driving a truck with only 800km on the odometer, as opposed to 380,000km (especially one that’s not yours), is that you can actually meet the speed limit and you’ve got air conditioning. Luxury! We’re easy to please.”

“We were reminded, once again, that a stock truck with a couple packs full of trekking gear is all you really need to explore.”

I’ve had my 21 TRD OR DCLB for about 2 months. I love it for its capability, looks, and aftermarket. I voted 4. The drivetrain does leave a lot to be desired, but I think it’s by design. Basically Toyota trying desperately to get a brick to have decent gas mileage. More low end torque and a modern 8+ speed transmission would be ideal. Having said that, I just drive it for what it is. It’s sort of a midlife crisis car for me, meant to take me off the road on some adventures, and in that regard, it’s a winner.

I love my 2021, but the double cab is just overkill for me. I'd really like to downgrade to a single cab 2014* when the payments are up. I do a lot of city driving and I miss the smaller size of my old single cab.

I love my 17 sport, I can’t bitch about mpg’s after lifting it and throwing 33’s on it. But all in all, the trucks been a great vehicle to learn basic mechanics on, comfortable to drive, overall a dependable truck in my personal opinion.
I do know that at 85k miles my torque converter went out along with the transmission. Toyota responsibly owned up to having a bad batch installed in the 17’s and rebuilt my trans and TC and I’m back to brand new.
