I liked and wanted one of those trucks back in the day but a newer vehicle wasn't in the budget then.

I had 3 Ranger stick shifts and enjoyed each of them. I wanted a midsized pickup with a stick shift. My Tacoma was the natural choice for me. It meets all of my needs perfectly. Got it treated with Krown & hopefully it will last me a long time.

I used to really like mine, but now that I have a kid and switched to a Crew Maxxx Tundra with the 5.7L I have to say I regret mot doing it sooner. Better highway mpgs, better acceleration and it doesn’t shift gears like crazy. Size wise I preffer the tacoma in every aspect except rear seat. I’d even be down for a 3ft bed with a Crew Maxxx cab.

Man I did great with that truck. Bought it for 13500$ with 35k miles, then drove it for 7 years and sold it at 165k miles running like new for 8000$. Just a cunty first and reverse.

Surprising that the tundroid gets better MPGs on the highway.

    How fast are you driving?

I've owned a '90 F250 diesel, an '87 F150 inline 6, a '98 Ranger 3.0, and now a '17 Tacoma. All of them were manual, and the Tacoma is the nicest ride by far. The F250 was better at towing, it's now living on a farm and hauling around farm stuff. After I sold the F250 I still got to drive it, except was paid to do so by the farmer.

The longer I own mine the more it gets on my nerves. It’s ok, but I would not buy one over again.

Tundra will not get better mpg’s than a Tacoma in an apples to apples comparison. Especially the 3.5 vs 5.7. Not a chance.
Issue in my opinion is how expensive everything has become. Tacoma is a nice vehicle. I enjoy it. But it’s gotten up there into luxury vehicle price range. If a nice TRD 4x4 was $32k, it would be easier to overlook the things that get on your nerves.

Sell it, it should get a good resale and buy something you like. Life is too short to be unhappy about something like that.

Everything is expensive. It’s insane and EVs are even more ridiculous.

80-85. I would get 10-12 on my tuned and regeared tacoma. I get 15-18 on my tundra depending on the wind.

Maybe a sequoia or Land cruiser would have been a sweet spot?

    ~16mpg for my stock ‘22 w/ 3.5L @ 80-85 mph. I could get over 22mpg @ 55mph (when one X’s into Louisiana that’s what one does). 10mpg pulling a boat upwind was my experience.

have 2 kids in seats -No issues
Pay less, better resale than domestics, park in the city and turn around on goat trails. Additionally, at my age, cutting and splitting a third of a cord is about all I’d want to do in a day anyway! I dig my 4th Tacoma…

A friend had a couple of those older 3.0 v6 stick shift rangers too. I think those engines were a European design. He beat the piss out of them for years....they were one tough truck.

I've always owned small sport compacts when I was younger. This is the first truck I've owned. I like it, for now. :D

When I drive mine, absolutely love it. When I frequent this forum I question it. Does it have enough power? Did it just shift weird? Is the seating position right? Can it tow a load of livestock safely? Does it have enough electronic Gee-Gaws? Too much? Suspension too soft? Too rough? Gas mileage is awful! Gas mileage is great! Why doesn’t it drive like BMW? What was that squeak? And the list goes on…

Best thing one can do for their Taco is to stay the fuck off this forum. Wish I could follow my own advice. ;P
