I did, but I got a good deal from the dealer. They gave me employee pricing on the truck including the 5yr 100k mile warranty for just $10 a month for 60 mo's. :)

... ^^^ ... DITTO ... I will be buying the "Toyota OEM Platinum" when my truck hits 34 months (which will be before the 36K mileage).

Judging from how some members are having difficulty with trucks under the original manufacturer's warranty....I would not by the extended Service Contract. Better check with your service dept first and see how they do business. Doesn't look like Toyota is consistent across their dealer network at backing their warranties and the "Platinum" OEM service contract may not pay for itself if they find mud on your truck and you bring it in for a breakdown.

This truck is mainly a Home Depot & Lowes cruiser. ... :D

Yep, service departments "vary" here on what they will do too.

A lot of folks think it's a bad buy, but I always get it... and I usually negotiate this as part of my purchase. It serves as long-term peace of mind and it has saved me twice with two other vehicles that required extensive/expensive repairs passed the initial limited warranty.

I should add, I wouldn't buy an extended warranty unless I had a great relationship with my dealership. Knowing your service managers and developing a good working relationship is a must.

I got mine in 03 and it was worth every penny, It paid for:

    New Alternator
    2 - Rack and Pinions
    Power Steering hose
    Steering Column knuckle

All this is well over what I paid for the warranty.

THIS is VERY important.... and why I take my vehicles to my dealer for all service and every other oil change (I change at 2500 between maintenance lights)

IF you do not have a relationship with the Service Dept other than issues it is harder to get the benefit of doubt. I am building a relationship with mine and they are tough. But I cannot own a Toyota in this town and have it serviced 100 miles away... Not when there are 3 Ford dealers..I stop in every once in awhile and say hey and will likely buy another RAV there for the wife. She really likes the Rav 4......even though the 06 is using 1 qt per 1000 miles....ugh.

so after reading this entire thread, I believe I have come to 2 conclusions. Please correct me if I am wrong...

    1) Being that my truck is new, I should wait until just before my 3yr/36K is up and then (if I wanted to) buy an extended warranty if I wanted to do a bumper to bumper, or wait until 5yr/100K is up and extend that (if I just wanted a power train covered)

and 2) Do not buy it from my local dealer on Long Island. I should look online or call Troy .. does anyone have info for the online sites, or Troy's info?

I can get 7 years warranty or 200,000 for $2600.00 Canadian on a new truck.
I have a Canadian black 2007 Taco 4 door TRD V6 with towing package. (No warranty left other than 1st year of ownership)My truck now has 113K on it or 70,000 miles. I have 4 X 4'd it all over. I have lost a few plastic retainer clips and I have LOTS of dings/chips but very little rust. My leaf spring shims squeak. I recently replaced all of my pulleys on the front end. WHY does this happen? Canadian winters? The bearings in all 4 of my pulleys were shot (no grease and *made in Japan*) as well as my AC/Alt belt. Are they made to fail or what? My old 2002 Taco is still on the road with NOTHING replaced! So, THAT being the case, my truck is still going strong and I'm happy with it.
Is it worth getting the extra warranty for peace of mind? I'm still relying on the product quality for my warranty. I'm about $1000.00 into maintenance for this truck. If I keep it another 3 years and spend another $1000.00 on it, that's still less than what Toyota offers for warranty. The way I see it, if I need to spend money on it, I will. I'm not going to buy a new truck and pay TAX ON WARRANTY. I think I have given Toyota more than enough of my hard earned money as it is.

I bought mine from Troy right before the 3/36 was up. His number is in the thread someplace

I voted yes but I got my warranty from my bank when we financed it. It covers everything except wiper blades and oil changes it is $800 away from paying for itself which really I'm hoping it doesn't have too but it covered my 100k tune up which was 5000mi over due and included water pump, timing belt replacement, a new starter relay switch, and a new Neutral Safety Switch. Hopefully this will be the last thing for a long while.

I dont mod or offroad so I got the warranty.

cost me $1500 to go from 36k to 120k bumper to bumper. I figure $1,500 is ONE problem so there's a good chance something will go. Its the chance I am willing to take.

I look at it in the same perspective as having a condom... I may not need it but it would suck to not have it and and wind up needing it.
