Got the warranty just in case I decided I needed it. When I read the fine print after I brought the Taco home, I saw that any claims would be met by extensive requirements for me to show proof that I maintained her perfectly to the letter. I do all my own maintenance, and I don't want to get the shaft in a few years because I couldn't provide complete receipts etc. So I saw the writing between the lines and filed paperwork to cancel it within a week of buying it.

I know several people who got the "Toyota OEM Extended Warranty" and they both had repairs with no problems and with minimal service records. :D

However, I was not aware that the "Toyota OEM Extended Warranty" refunded your money back to you if it was not used.

FWIW, if I still have my truck at 35,000 miles and/or 35 months, I will definitely get a "Toyota OEM Extended Warranty" before my 36/3 yr. warranty runs out. :D

I'm a fan of warranties, hell I sell them on bikes, atv's, watercraft, etc.. for a living, so do believe in them. I went with the 7yr/100k mile on my truck, but I made sure to get it for what I wanted to pay for it and no where near what they wanted to sell it for. Gotta love it when a manager has to get another higher up manager to approve something :)
I know alot of people say to wait till the 3yr/36 is close to up before buying, but two problems with that #1 price ALWAYS goes up on a regular basis with warranties so the same coverage will be more in 3 years, and #2 when you get it at time of purchase you can finance insteading of shelling it all out at once later.
My advice to anybody wanting to buy the warranty with the vehicle is shop it before going in for your delivery to find the best going rate, then find out what cost is (usually about half of retail, here is the prices for Toyota). When you are doing your delivery offer lesser of either the best price you found saying you saw it somewhere else and show them a print out of that price, or if it's lower offer them $100 over cost with the argument of "I don't need the warranty so $100 for you is better than nothing"
Also always insist on the OEM backed warranty with a zero deductable, stay away from the "aftermarket" ones. They are sometimes a pain to deal with and I know alot of service departments hate having to file claims with them.

In nearly thirty-five years of driving Toyota pickups, I've never had one need work that would have been covered by an extended warranty. Remember that they wouldn't sell the warranties unless they knew that the majority of customers wouldn't need them, otherwise there would be no profit in it.

    This.

Last time I went in for a warranty claim, I ended up having to pay. Waste of money.

I got a 7yr/100,000 mi warranty with mine because I financed through Toyota, and they offered to drop my interest rate if I got a warranty. I paid $1350 for the warranty (maybe that was high, maybe it was low) and with the rate reduction my payment went down. At that point, why say no to it?

    Hi all.

I got the 7 year extended warranty as well as disability insurance on my 7 year truck loan. The 2 cost 3500 but getting them dropped my interest rate 2.0 % so the cost over the life of the loan is only 500 bucks. Since this truck is a keeper I have no problem with paying 500 extra.

    Cheers
    Ray.

Only purchased an extended warranty once. Never used it and never got another one after that. Today, however, I rarely keep a vehicle more than three years before trading up or over, so an extended warranty is moot.

Unless a really big repair is needed, the cost of the warranty is less than the fix required for many issues that might come up. Extended warranties are really insurance for the big catastrophic failures after the extended warranty expires.

Regardless, you can get extended warranties elsewhere. This is the number two money cash cow for dealers, just behind used car sales and just ahead of the repair shops. They are very overpriced--sometimes ridiculously so. Check your insurance compmany. you can usually get similar coverage for much, much less. You are getting raped if you get a extended warranty from a dealer.

I have an '06 double cab 4x4 with 88k. The extended warranty, would have been a waste had I bought it. Never add that or anything else if you are financing it. Just seems nuts to add interest. Funny how they try to sell all those silly add one these days. One fool even wanted to sell me vin number etching on my windows when the police will do that for free!
