Yep exactly that! I didn't want to go through the hassle of breaking it and getting a replacement and all that the first time so I figured I'd let them do it. Well that didn't happen. Plus I always have a peace of mind putting in Valvoline synthetic every 5k

At this point I do mine and my wifes truck. Both take the same diff fluid, transfer case/center diff fluid, oil, same tools, etc etc etc. I just ordered 2 more rhino ramps to get her truck a little higher off the ground, but it's so easy, I can take my time, I don't have to wait at the dealer, etc etc etc. It's just better all around to do your own maintenance IMO.

Just took mine in for the first oil change. Also the first time anyone has ever done an oil change for me.

I have a 20 year 200K drive train warranty, and figure it's the only sure way I can keep from falling into a gray area if something ever did happen.

I do them myself, usually. Took mine in for the 5k to let them look. Did the 10k myself. Took it for the 15k so they could check a drivability issue and seeping rear diff. I specifically told them do the 15k. Well, they changed my oil. I know they thought they were being nice since they didn't see the 10k on their computer. But, they cross threaded two skid bolts and left oil on the braces and hoses underneath, on the fuse box cover, and on the engine cover. Must have set the oil container there and the outside of the container was coated with oil. The cross threaded bolts just piss me off. That's just not giving a shit about your work. BTW, the they told me it drives normal and the diff isn't seeping. Ya right.

Dealer. I've always done all maintenance myself but have an 8 yr. warranty and want to keep all
the work with them. It's only about 50 bucks w/ the coupon they always have and it's the same time
as the inspection (free) is due so it's just ez to drop it off Saturday morning when I don't use it and go
pick it up a few hours later; it's only about 10 min. from the house too.

The only thing I go to the dealer for is a warranty recall and even then I’d think twice.

It holds steady with just the pivot nut and bolt. I don’t use the second bolt.
Just swing it open to change your filter.

The dealer did 3. I have done 2. I will do many of them but if I get busy I have no qualms having it done. Just prefer saving some cash if I can.

I do it myself , same on my previous vehicles. Gives you a chance to inspect for rust/leaks etc. Also, you know its done right and its not gonna be over or underfilled.

The truck drives better when you do it yourself :D

From my experience, most techs at dealers do not give a shit.

I do it myself as it gives me the opportunity to see how the truck is wearing.

I got mine done at the dealer while it was still free but now I'm going to do it myself. This way I'll save some money and know it's being done right

I always did it myself until recently. No way I trust the dealer of one of the lube joints to do it right. But the independent mechanic I use will change it for $10 if I supply the oil and filter. For $10 he can do it. Plus it gives him a chance to poke around under the truck and under the hood.

All of the above? The quick lube place by my house is pretty decent, so I don't mind going there if I'm in a rush. Dealership did all my "free" ones and a couple of others when I had recall/TSB work scheduled with them around the same time for my convenience. And I've done a couple. I've always verified the work after, but I've had all 3 of your options do it at least twice

I was planning on doing changes myself until I saw how weird and convoluted the filter design is. Why tf would they choose this instead of a simple canister like everyone else? I’ll be taking it to the dealership.

Part 2: I have a great idea: oil and filter in one easy package to change out. It would be about the size of your battery. Pull the old one out, pop the new one in and latch it in place. No drain plugs, no mess, no extra parts. Just swap out an all-in-one carton every oci. Car manufacturers would have to redesign a bit for it, might require a dry sump system, not sure. But would make for a cleaner simpler system. And because the old oil is already collected in the old carton, they could even do something like a $5 “recycling return” making for a green incentive for people not to toss them out.

My girlfriends brother has a garage. I bring him the oil(Mobil 1) and a filter. The tires get rotated, driveshaft greased, and rear brakes adjusted. I usually throw $25/30 at him.
