I let the truck sit overnight, usually by the next day I can take the filter off without any oil spilling out. Wasn't so lucky this time, but atleast the oil didn't overflow the lip.

Good idea with the hose or cup under the filter. It drives me nuts every time I loosen the filter and the oil spills over that lip and starts dripping down onto engine parts and the top of the skid plate.

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars
It seems Toyota has been doing that upside down oil filter for many a year.
I usually put a cloth under it and if its been sitting for a while you usually don't have to much problem.
Not sure if it was for convienence and easy access on Camry's /Corolla's and the like.

I do my oil in my yard twice a year with Mobil 1 and a Taco filter. That seems to fit my mileage needs, as I put on about 13K per year. Most of the time I wait until late Oct and do it before winter but early enough to not freeze or run into ugly New England weather. MJEFF

Dealer. Besides the 2 year free oil change from Toyota, the dealer was offering lifetime oil changes. I did some homework and was fairly underwhelmed by performance data for a $60-80 home oil change vs free dealer. So I'll take the savings and put 'em towards other toys for the Taco.

Since I got my truck I never came back to the dealer. I do everything on my truck, except I don't have tools or machine then I go to my trusted mechanic. I wish my Big Brother is here so he can teach me everything about vehicle. BTW I didn't go to school for mechanics it's just chating my bro over facebook what to do. lol!

Most of the time I do my own but if I'm feeling lazy or in a hurry then I'll take it to a lube shop and hope for the best. I hate how they always try to sell other crap to you while there.

I believe a conventional oil change is around $40. it's the synthetic oil they rape you on, but it doesn't need to be changed as often and is better in colder temps.

PS - my truck is the only thing I pay PST on, my city is PST exempt bish.

Workman would never let anyone change the oil on his truck, unless he was incapacitated. It is so easy to do on the 2005+ tacoma, that he enjoys doing it. Workman also changes it with mobil 1 5-30 and a toyota filter for around $35.

My last home oil change useing synthetic (5W-30 Mobile One) oem filter and drain bolt gasket came to $28.00. The oil was bought a year ago at Wallmart for $23.50 and the oem filter (with gasket) were $4.50 at dealership.
