    Hey all,

So my truck is brand new, got her last May. First Oil change i did with Toyota just because it was easier with my schedule, now its Xmas and im due again...but this time for drive shaft lube, check cv joints, etc

This has got me thinking, should I do it myself? Should I bring it in for ease again? Also should anything get weird its all on Toyota and not me...

Also I have had some issues with my parking break so figured id go in anyways.

I know this decision is mine i the long run and we are all different but im curious what the majority do with their trucks.

When doing it yourself just a matter of keeping receipts and any warranty should still be good anyways, right

I'd keep receipts to be safe, though that doesn't prove the maintenance was done. However it's better than nothing. I've heard I dealers asking for the receipts.

Sweet, thanks. Looked for one and didn't come across this.

That being said im so tempted to do the work myself.... saves cash and I can even invest in better product (lube/oil) for my baby.

To boot my buddy is a mechanic so for a beer or 2 he will sit by me to assist or point out zerks lol

It actually took me 10 minutes to search to find it. It was something that wasn't really easy to find. I just knew it was out there, I just had to find it.

In the end that comes to the owners discretion. In Canada we don't get that so some of us in this thread couldn't even give you an answer.

Didn't get any free maintenance on mine.... Maybe it's a Canadian thing... I could have gotten it thrown in but preferred to bargain to pay less for the truck instead.

I get some free oil changes. No thanks, I'll do it myself and take pride in my well done work. Can't guarantee the dealers' work is.

Good point, but there is no proof that the dealer's work was done correctly either. It sucks because if I do it myself, I know for certain that everything was double and triple checked to make sure it was correct, but at the dealer, it is the lowest paid grease monkey doing the oil changes, with no proof it was done right. The dealers will try to weasel out of it anyways, so it is a lose-lose situation for us.

You can get an extended warranty and "certain" things are "free". Obviously you have to pay for that extended warranty. Other manufactures have free maintenance as well, just not in Canada it seems.

    Me...

I've got free everything from Toyota but I refuse to take it there. I took my last truck for regular maintenance and all they ever tried to do was change the oil. Sometimes I wasn't even sure if they did that. They were supposed to rotate the tires each time and I would mark one with chalk. Without fail they were never rotated. I would have to argue with the service advisor each time and when I showed him that I had marked them he would always have some Bullshit excuse. My cabin air filter was supposed to be changed and it was full of shit. Add that I usually have to wait for over an hour it isn't worth it.

At least when I do it I know it is done correctly. I keep all the receipts and a log of what and when the maintenance occured.

Unless it is something major I don't plan on my truck ever seeing the inside of the service department.

I take it to my local Toy dealer for most scheduled stuff. I can hang out in the shop if I want. Not worried if the work requested is done because I see them do it. It's fast, was free for a while & not out of line in price IMO. Every fifth "routine" visit is "free".
