This sounds pretty good. I’m still well wishing my warranty etc.

    So I’ll probably go back.

Update: Toyota Canada has agreed to cover the paint and tailgate damage. Warranty manager was surprised that it's being covered. Damage isn't that bad but tailgate corner is dented and paint messed up. Repair estimate came to $800 Canadian.

I honestly love this feature the most. Super underrated.

My corner is a bit worse for the wear.

Someone on youtube said that used a GM one and it works good.. might give it a try. Looks the exact same.

Mine just did the same thing. It’s cheap enough($10?) and easy to replace. I just bought two so I could have a future backup

I replaced this bushing and the new one installed shattered. Anyone know what else can be wrong? First time I had to replace it. With the new one I heard crunching then the tailgate dropped all the way as it shattered.

Just came across this thread. My 21 tailgate recently/gradually lost most of the soft close feature, didn't know about this bushing thingy lol. Looking at it does appear to be compromised however my hi tech anti theft hose clamp seems to be holding it in place and keeping the hinge from being sloppy. Have had trucks for 50 yrs never needed no stinking soft close. Normally wouldn't care but apparently there's a risk of damage to the gate from a few posts here from the loose fit of a blown bushing so I guess we are hostage to maintaining it.

I’m in the same boat with the high-tech hose clamp protector. Guess I’m gonna have to bust out the heavy duty equipment (screwdriver) to remove the clamp when it’s time for this repair.

Just ordered one at Amazon. Won't hurt to have the spare part. Only a few bucks anyway. If the part fails, I will have it ready.
