Who Else Drives Their MT Tacoma Hard?

Just curious if it's just me. Going back and forth from work is pretty normal driving but otherwise (especially in traffic) I drive the hell out of my truck, not burning the clutch or anything but hard shifting in higher RPM's. Truck seems to take it and just keep getting it. I guess these trucks are built pretty tough. Anyone else drive their Tacoma MT pretty hard?

 

Sometimes, but it's usually because my girlfriend has her hand in my shorts.

 

Sometimes, usually a tap of road rage from a Mass-hole or REALLY slow old person, but not daily. This truck is a blast to drive

 

I drive all my toyota trucks hard. Never had an engine problem.

 

Love my manual trans. Would never even think of buying a tacoma without it. I drive it hard and even in 6th it wants to pull. Plus, the bitches love it!

I ride my 2.7L pretty hard. AC takes about 40hp so I run it pegged out on pretty much any hill or pass, 35's don't help much either.

 

Man 2.7 on 35's, I know they come with 4.30's but geez.

 

Nope, they come with 3.92's. It actually drove fine. I switched to 4.88's and now it's over geared

 

I got on my 4.0L 6 speed fairly hard. I'm going to be thru a set of Michilan LTX AT2 (P-version) in about 40k miles. Sometimes when wheeling or getting into trail heads, I'll burn my clutch. Had my girl out there last weekend and it was the first time she had ever smelled burning clutch. I just laughed.

It's been 3 years now. I'm really digging my Taco. Glad I traded my Silverado in on it. I drive it hard, and it treats me right. Not as comfortable as my Silvy, but easier to park, and way more capable on the rough stuff. And it's holding up like a champ. Love the 4.0, it's a great truck motor. And it's easy to work on.

 

I stand corrected. I know my truck has 4.30, I can just about take off in second on flat ground, definitely going downhill.

i drive the crap out of my MT. i actually don't typically shift very high, though, just a preference thing, i like to shift under 4k if i can. but once I'm running i drive hard and push the handling the truck close to its limits, just cus that's my zone. i am not, however, an aggressive driver with others in our around and I've been a student of racecraft for years, so I'm comfortable there.

interestingly, this purchase was between the MT Pro or a VW Golf R.(my last car was a R32). i went with the truck to slow me down. so far it's kinda worked... just kinda tho.

i may get used to running higher revs as the OV tune progresses.

 

man i live above 4,000rpm most of the time. that's when the 2gr wakes up. You're missing out on all the fun.

 

yeah i know but I'm the old V8 or inline 6 kinda driver... i don't like winding cars out. and I'm not getting used to it either. lol

 

wring mine out to redline pretty regularly, full throttle often, etc. Easy on the launch because i don't want to prematurely wear out tires/clutch but otherwise get awwwwn it!

 

I usually only go over 4 grand in 1st gear and grab 2nd very quickly as not to drop many RPMs and that gets you moving along ok.
