Something to ponder, the first time a Toyota truck had 270hp/315trq was the first gen tundra. My uncle had two and I always enjoyed driving them. Not too big but would work like a full size truck 99% of the time.

The biggest thing that perplexes me is the hybrid option… if it was a PHEV (plug-in) and you could drive 40 miles on electric only I’d be more excited. It’s not going to increase mileage substantially and 315tq at low rpm on the base engine is plenty of power for the platform. Both the Tundra and Tacoma Hybrids don’t advance the platforms capability significantly imo, compared to their costs. Yea maybe some utility on hardcore trails but they don’t increase towing ratings.

These exciting new power numbers and tech features are great and all, but it does make you wonder if the Tacoma's greatest feature - reliability - will continue to deliver. Something tells me we've peaked already. There's no way these new turbo motors with more features, plastics, sensors, and electronics are going to last like their simpler predecessors. And they're going to be a LOT more expensive to fix when they do break.

While we're being silly though - why no electric Taco? I'd totally pick that over the other 2 if they're going all high techie.

More expensive than a $30,000 2gr replacement cost ? The v6 has got to be the most expensive engine in the cheapest vehicle on sale today.

Ain't nobody here paid anywhere near 30 grand to replace a stock Taco motor. Prove me wrong.

I’m looking forward to it. I own a 2006 Prerunner and a 2023 TRD OR. The 2023 one is definitely a more modern package, and it’s nice to have a few options that weren’t available in my ‘06, but it really drives like crap. I drove the older
one for 16 years and completely loved it until it started getting a little bit unreliable around 300k. I knew I wasn’t going to be crazy about the 3rd gen but I’m willing to deal with its shortcomings for a reliable truck. But I’m looking forward a truck that doesn’t need an aftermarket tune for average performance.
And I’m not scared about buying it in the first model year.

So the Tacoma is ev only? Not a hybrid (ice/electric)? Yeah electric only seems ridiculous for most. The resale on full electric has nose diived. China makes such crap (BYD) they cant give them away.

The wife HAD to have an electric awhile back. We ended up with a plug in 2019 Prius Prime. If its got to be electric, Toyota is the go to. Its been a cheap to drive for her daily run around chores. We have relitively low utilities cost in my area @ 7c to 17c kw. The 1st 40ish miles of Electriic cost the same as if it was an ice motor @ $1 a gallon.

I'd be interested if the Tacoma stayed @ the 1st gen size with a plug in. That would make sense. Why do cars/trucks have to always get bigger as they put out newer models? Toyota has a Tundra already.

Most trucks are still under warranty. The fuck do I have to prove to you? Go look up the part cost of a complete engine.

Who is paying $30K for a new engine? Just buy a whole new truck at that point.

Central valley small town north of Turlock. Turlock Irrigation district (T.I.D.). Modesto (M.I.D.) and north is PG&E, big jump in $.

A friend lives in Livermore and it iis definitely cheaper to fuel up over charging. His benefit definitely is in the hybrid mpg. Fulĺ (fool) electric is the definition of virtue signaling nonsense most places.

If anyone could make a good pickup EV it would be Toyota. While not trying too poop on anyone's parade this EV will still follow the same trend of other EV's now. It takes an average of 88 days to sell a new EV vrs. 44 days average of an ICE. Hmmmm...
    .
People are getting past the EV lies first hand, by seeing thru thier pocket book. A certain, lets just say, administration, stated electricity cost will "nessasarily" increase. Skyrocketing electricity cost plus stunts like removing EV free hov lane privilege from used EV purchases, here in Ca. anyway.
