This whole thing confuses me. We work to make money. We make money to pay for the things that we need, and also the things that we want. We purchase these things with the money that we worked for. Then we avoid using the things that we purchased? For what?! It seems like a horrible financial decision to buy things that you avoid using. Maybe that’s the philosophy that keeps people stuck exactly where they are. They never use what they have to it’s full potential. They waste it... & no one is saying to beat the truck to shit or not take care of it. OP doesn’t want to get it dirty at all. Ever. Come on... Buy what you need or want & use that shit. That’s why you bought it.

I bought this truck new in April. Has two deep scratches in it now. The wife said she was surprised it took this long! I don't abuse the truck, but I don't baby it. After all, it's just a truck.

Lol I got one going around a corner heading to work one morning as my right front tire picked something up in the road and heard some beating and banging... got to work and found a deep scratch on the passenger rear door, a dent in my cab corner and a small puncture in my right rear tire.... wtf

Very true but since someone on this planet has a different view than you I now have a 1987 ranger bass boat that I bought 4 years ago with a new power head for $3.900. Been fishing this rig for 4 years now for $3,900 and it will last much longer. Better than paying 58K for a new bass boat same is true with Tacoma's

This is about my fav time to hit some large mouth.... time is the issue. I make time for everyone but myself.... I figured at some point I’ll find time again.... my 15 year old is my fishing buddy and well being 15 and having friends that he meets up with on the basketball court.... slowly getting Independent.... weekends is when we try to do stuff together. Getting dark about the time I get home

This vid exposes one of my other passions/hobbies, which is knives. The video, by Nick Shabazz, is more about watches, and knives and whatnot, but I think the same applies to Tacomas. It’s some good philosophy about resale value he shares with his funny accent.

“Thinking about resale value makes a lot of people miserable”.

One thing I notice, is this “coveting” of trucks, is more of a man thing. It’s counter intuitive, but the women I know who off-road, and own Toyota’s, are far more likely to “abuse” their brand new vehicles, and be cool about it, then the men I know.

It is men who cry over dented trucks mostly. Women don’t seem so attached, which I find interesting.

I did baby mine for a month or 2, but once I got a scratch on my truck it felt broken in and go everywhere in it. I don’t have any desire to drive anything else.

I was over it when my truck got a cracked windshield when it was like 3 months old. Now I’ve got 25K miles, rock chips on the paint and even a few little ones on the windshield again, heck my truck went through hell with all the rice size ash we had from the fires here. I wash it and keep it nice but at the end of the day I’m just going to use it for what it is. I like keeping my cars nice but it’s not a forever vehicle. If I ever sell it who ever gives me grief over imperfections there will be 10 other people interested regardless. So I’m not really worried about it.

I have always babied my vehicles, doesnt matter old or new. I always tried to keep them in the best shape i could and it was satisfying doing all the work yourself. When they look nice in the sun, its a good feeling.

If i had a beater to drive around when i dont need a truck, i would definetily do it. So no, you are not the only one for sure.

    I wish i kept my 07 ranger...

I prefer to drive the piss out of mine and put as many miles on it as I can. I'm trying to out run the rust.

It's not that I don't want to drive mine. It's that I have a company provided f150 and a gas card. I'm using that perk for all it's worth with in reason. I use my Tacoma on the weekends.

This thread is funny!!:rofl:I showed it to my wife last night as i too get it from her. She just shook her head. My truck will be 3 weeks old this saturday. I don't drive her much as I have a company vehicle and I kept my 06 tundra that I bought new. She thinks im strange for not driving the new truck much which i told her that it has been 14 years since i bought a new truck, let me enjoy the newness for a little bit before it get rock chips, scratches and dents in it. And so what if I don't drive it in the rain.... My tundra is already outside getting wet so why pull the new truck out of the garage and get another truck dirty!:D It also doesnt help that this is the most I have ever paid for a vehicle so yeah, the kids need to use the front or rear door of the house to go outside instead of opening the garage and brushing up against the new truck!. Haha.

I get it, I do the same things and it drives me nuts! My wife and I have great jobs, no kids, no debt, retirement acc. is maxed out. I daily a 20yr old Honda Accord with 300k miles. My 98 Tacoma that I got a smoking deal on about 6 years ago came with dents already (215k) currently. I look at new trucks all the time, I want to go buy a new TRDOR and not beat it, but use it. If it gets trail scratches so be it, take a 12 hour drive to death valley and explore because it would be way more comfortable than my 98. One of these days...
