    I get it.
My daily is a $1200 van, just another in a lifetime of cheap clunkers and wheezers. I take good care of my vehicles and my oldies have taken care of me all these years.

The Tacoma was my once in a lifetime splurge -- a metaphorical gold watch for all the work years. I bought it to be "that old guy who washes his truck every week".
We take it on road trips or cruise around on nice weekends, it stays in the garage most of the time and all winter. Yes, I bought a 4x4 to NOT drive in the snow.

One of the great things about these trucks (and this forum) is the mod-ability both with a wrench and a lifestyle. Some folks want to lift, cut and wheel - some want to polish, putter and cruise. We get to see each others work and hear their ideas, neither is wrong and there is trail or road for all of us.

THIS IS ME TO A TEE!!!

But my daily is a hand-me-down '08 Rav with 180,000 miles. Gonna drive that Rav until it won't roll anymore. THEN maybe my precious truck will see snow.

    Potential Solution:

Just get a used first gen 4x4 that has been babied all its life, go outdoors and enjoy it for years, then sell it for more bucks down the road!

Kind of like buying new shoes, but not wearing them. Not up my ally at all, but I get it. Unfortunately, I’ve had like a dozen new vehicles, and modify all of them to beat off road, you should see my 4 wheeler.....

Totally! Mine only goes out of the garage on sunny days. I guess that's mostly the result of the fact that I work from home. The truck has been washed and waxed, why get it dirty if I don't have to?

LOL! When I see trucks like that, I usually stay far, far away... They're obviously beyond 'caring' anymore.. ;)

Yup, I get it... Even though I bought the Bare Bones Base model (4x4 SR AC 2.7L) ... after all was said and done, cost/taxes/reg .... It was $33K. I paid in full, but still cutting those checks was ... Hey, for me $33K is a big hunk of change. (Retired on a fixed income and all that..)
I never had any intentions for it to be nothing more than a Grocery-Getter Pavement Princess ... But had to be a truck & had to be 4x4... I live just a few miles below the Canadian border (Think brutal winters of snow and ice) and being very rural, have to take the trash to the dump once a month...
So I'm sure it's gonna get grungy in the winter, so just trying to enjoy the 'newness' while it lasts...
My wife was impressed with what she thought was my new-found 'cleanliness' the other day when she asked 'Wow... you're taking a shower EVERY single day now?' and I told her 'Nope ... Just rinsing off the floor mats..' LOL!

Same here. I only got the 3.5l for the tow package and hope to put it to full use someday.

Even though I get mine in some situations, my wife still laughs about how much I mess with it. But, I can't leave anything alone.

It seems like it's a 'me' thing ... (??) .... I just like to keep my stuff nice.
Oh, the van will never go... It's our camping rig. (I don't know if it's allowed here, but see attached pic) ... A 95' B2500 ... runs perfect and .. I kid you not ... Only 104k miles on it. Barret Jackson will have to pry it from my cold dead hands...Van1.jpg Van3.jpg

    @BMH :rofl:

That beautiful van looks ready for plenty of fun adventures.. even into the World of Tacoma's, why not?!

...you do know a 4x4 conversion would surely be extra fun on this machine too!

To me that's just some stupid shit right there. If I were to wheel, I'd be buying a used second gen for that. Just me tho, have fun!

LOL! Thank you m'man! I'm the original owner. 25 years now
It's been cross-country .. WA to AZ. to FL. to MA. and all in between now .. Three times.
The wife wouldn't let me sell it, even if I wanted to .. LOL! (Especially as our kids grew up in it..)
    Many, many adventures.
Hopefully my Taco will look just as good 25 years from now (If I last that long! LOL) and I'll have great stories to tell about that too!
Call me a sappy-dope, but I think that a rig .. Even though it's just a hunk of mechanical parts on 4 wheels .. Plays a huge part in the legacy/history of everyone's family. It's something everyone remembers with certain times. (There's not ONE of us here who doesn't remember what our very first rig was, right?) ... And who hasn't said.. 'Oh man! I remember that! That's when you had that 'XXXXX' back in 'XXXX' and we went to 'XXXXXXX!' Right?:)
LOL ... Yeah, I've seen the 4x4 vans ... Pretty cool ... But, yeah, not at this point in my life .. LOL!

yeah i get ya man. ill admit, my truck is a garage queen lol. the only "offroading" my truck sees is when i drive it around to the back lawn to offload the water jugs for my dispenser. my sequoia even though they both are the same year is actually my workhorse/errand runner/daily driver. soon to replace that with a 2021 t4r nightshade THEN i dunno which one is gonna be everyday whip. choices, choices.

I've not washed my truck since the first week in May. Here on the coast we get at least a little bit of rain damn near every day. Nothing worst than detailing the shit out of your truck and having to pull it out of the garage into rain.

I do keep the bugs cleaned off the front end and mirrors thou.

I don't get it. I park tandem and will always take the extra 10 minutes to move my wife's CR-V out of the way to take the truck instead of just taking the sensible CR-V. I do wash it regularly though and I do fret about the dents.

I understand wanting to keep it nice, but I don't understand not using it.

My 4runner has light scratches all over it from trails. I've been averaging 2000 miles a month since I bought it new, and I don't even drive it to work. But, I still park as far as possible at grocery stores, etc. And have 0 door dings. For some reason, I can live with self inflicted blemishes, but not damage due to negligent pricks.

Still looks good from 50' away!

That’s a great reason for putting on an inexpensive vehicle wrap! I was thinking ab that yesterday while reading about a trail near the TWAT that’s known for scratching.
