Hella true, you cant even get wide fender flares and its hard to find nice bumpers. Its worth the looks and rareness.

love the Softopper... nice to keep shit dry in the bed... including myself.... spent many a night back there on extended road trips.. after I seem sealed it of course.. easily folds down when you need full use of the bed... or take it off completely all by your lonesome... Very light weight which also works well for the lil 4 banger... Plus i think it looks pretty cool

The only gripe, besides not locking, is rain and dust can still get in at the corners cause it doesnt quite come down all the way.... Ive adjusted it all i could without luck.. I usually stow my gear in a couple Action Packers which besides keeping my things clean n dry can also lock to the truck... and whatever rain does get in just runs down between the bed grooves not affecting anything... Its not a problem for me what so ever, but not knowing your needs i thought i should mention it...

Ive had it for a few years now and after thousands of miles on and off the road, highway speeds, heavy winds, snow storms, and the beating CA sun it still looks new.... I wipe her down with ArmorAll after a wash bout once a year or so and all good... Also the clips will rust out but easily replaced with some stainless S-biners for a good cheap fix

You'll be hard pressed to find a used hardtop camper for the stepside but it never hurts to look... if that fails you can always have a rack fabricated to fit over the softopper, probably wouldnt be too much... or look on the Softopper site for their adjustable rack- $500 i think...
maybe a big lockable box inside the bed?? or somehow fitting a piece of ply up against the inside bedrail lip, kind of like a bed platform, and getting a lockable tailgate handle..??

Looks like this post has been gone for a while but I am trying to make a plywood trunk type system to go with my soft topper. I have a locking tailgate and I’m looking for some feed back on a tall plywood system where I could put a cooler and come totes under neither. Any ideas? I have been searching a lot. Looking for some pictures and a thread that might be able to help me.

I think it can work and I like the idea. Just trying to figure it out.
