Just imagine what would happen if you took all that weight off of your tacoma........i think you would literally be able to hear a sigh of relief, better gas mileage , and it would run like a son of a gun

Anybody else use rustoleum on their box like I did? I'm wondering how that stuff holds up.

I gots one! No pics though :( I think its a PNW thing though. Pro-tec is really popular where I'm from, small logging/industrial based community an hour north of portland. I've always had pro-tec boxes, same with my pa in his trucks and all of his company rigs. Highest quality I've ever dealt with, everything else seems really cheap in comparison. Pro-tec will literally last forever.

what style protech do you have??
where'd you buy your box? and how much?

I've been looking for a protech on craigslist for a while only found one for a 1st gen Tacoma but it was the wing style and i really don't want that style.

throw up a pic of yours : )

I like the idea of a gullwing but keeping a shotgun in the back is a PITA. I have a full lid diamond plate, cross body, single latch, standard depth. The model number is 54-8241. Pro-Tech has a factory in Vancouver, WA. and a scratch and dent outlet somewhere that I haven't been to. That might be a pretty good deal to look into, I just haven't had the time. There are also a lot of dealers locally, Pro-Tech seems to do a pretty good job getting their name around. I got mine through Wood's Logging Supply in Longview. Most of the truck shops are dealers though. I know Potter Webster, DSU Peterbuit, Sunset Auto Parts/NAPA, Anderson brothers, Central 4WD, Roberts Motor Co., Truckstell, etc. If you go on the website you can do a dealer search. I'll look for some pictures. My dad has a fully built Pro-Tech flatbed that looks really clean. Dealers are always a good way to go but Craigslist can't be beat. A lot of the "mini-trucks" have the same model number for toolboxes. Frontiers, Rangers, S10's, etc. all use the 54-8241 for my style. Keep looking on craigslist, let me know if you find a headache rack too, I've been looking for a decently priced Pro-Tech headache rack for awhile.

oh most ceartainly it may be his means of income, and i am not bashing the idea or the necessity to have a rolling shop i am simply stating the obvious its a big ass tool box. more power to him.

i value a hard work ethic, i hate ties, and i dont work in an office.

uws makes a good low profile, fair price, great durability...my selling point for uws was that you could stand on the lid without it warping or bending...

RKI (formerly known as Rawson Koenig) are one of the toughest boxes you can buy. They arent' cheap but if you want a box that cant be torn up or broken into these are the ticket.

I chose a box made for a trailer. Wanted to carry two dirt bikes and the box in the truck bed. This box comes out if needed and I can get two dirt bikes in by putting the front wheels in the corners.
