It’s a Chinese Norinco SKS model D or M. Those were built from the factory to take AK mags. I believe the D is preban and the M came with a thumb hole stock.

It's actually an SKS-Sporter which was an even shorter lived sequel to the M.

Rare mags are for collecting not shooting. I'll shoot bakes but nothing more expensive. I have several mags worth $2k+ that will likely never see a round again

I'm somewhat new to reddit but guns introduced me to it with their GAFS section. I'll check it out. I've always wanted an AK platform but when the mood hits, it's always bad timing and prices seem to be over inflated. I should have picked up the Romanian AK at a gun show 17 year ago for $450. I was still new to guns and only owned an handgun and a passed down 22 rifle at the time (I was a poor college kid) and never in my life thought I'd ever spend more than $400 on a single gun or ever need an AK or AR....oh how things have changed over the years and now all the regrets I passed on haunt me still today.

Y'all with your high class AKs costing as much as a glorified AR, chromed out like a HD lol. Pinky's stuck out while you sip your Belvedere.

Meanwhile, I'm chilling with my dirty ~$700 WASR wearing tacticool magpul in the poorhouse. Slamming Miller's with Metallica turned to 11

I'd like to change my muzzle device. Currently have a Tapco warthog on there or something, it's 4-prong is all I really know. Suggestions for a comp/brake to level the recoil a bit more and mitigate what's felt by the shooter? I'd also like it to actually clock with the detent pin like it should and be TIGHT, please.

A solid rail for an optic would be nice too. Not sure if the dust cover style are really that good, just don't trust them to hold steady. The factory stamped steel one certainly shifts while firing.

Should I change from the Zhukov-S stock? Would a foregrip help? Do I need to get on the Union's site and just blow some doll hairs?

Unless you are going with TWS, stay away from the dustcover mounting. If you have a siderail, I like Midwest Industries, Arsenal, or the newer AK Master Mount sidemounts.

I’d check this article out on muzzle devices but that tapco razr is a classic. Just make sure she’s timed right. The article talk about it. I’ve also heard great things about the vg6.

    https://www.pewpewtactical.com/best-ak47-brakes-compensators/

Dust covers can be hit or miss on fitment but as other have said TWS makes a solid one. If you’ve got the side rail then any mount, as long as the mounting screw is tight on the mount before it’s on the gun, that it’ll hold zero every time.

Good mounts would be RS Regulate (301,302 or 303 and an upper) $$$, Midwest industries $$ or AK master mount $$

Please dont Magpul out your wasr. I’ve heard rumors of Mikhail coming back from the dead just to tell you “rifle is fine”. A good set of wood makes a wasr look amazing. My BIL had a Romy G set refinished by Kalashwood on IG and my goodness it’s not only beautiful but velvet . The wood was in rough shape before he sent if off so a cheaper set can still yield result.

Check AKfiles (Read the AKfiles MP rules) or Reddit on r/comblocmarket . You can find a lot of good stuff

Went from the slant brake to a definitive arms fighter brake (cheap!) and was very impressed with the softer recoil impulse . No more cheek slap .
For a rail I went ultimak .. some folks poopoo them but installed correctly they are solid and work great . Don’t get scared of the heat ... if your optic can’t take it you needed a better optic .

It's not the heat, I can't see well at 34 due to astigmatism and need decent glass. I probably have less than $100 in the mount and AIM Sports "scope" from slAmazon

I’m talking about some folks concerns of the heat transmitted to the optic when using an ultimak gas tube mounting rail .

That's it! The Razr flash hider, it didn't come with anything to time/clock it's position that I remember. I happily sawed the weld for the slant device. Suppose I could booger weld the Razr in the correct position...

Like I said, I've got the cheap aim sports optic (and just looked at my order history) and it was an AIM sports side rail mount, too. Less than $50 in both :crapstorm:

I'll probably keep the magpul grip, I kinda like it's hand-feel. Somewhere, I have either my original wood set or a set from an early RAS47 I swapped a dude for a poo poo ATI set that was super flimsy, until his RAS blew up. Maybe I'll get bored soon and refinish it like I did that Savage 110 a few posts of mine back. That warsaw LOP is just so short for my lanky arms.
