Well, Kinda first time for me. ive built 1/2 the kit before and many AR's along with a handful of gunsmith specials from various websites that ive built up my skills with. I just bought another kit and a completed receiver because the flat jig, spot welder and heat treatment tools were more than what i wanted to spend for right now. I can do a press for the rivets and set of files (starting out) for the barrel pin. Maybe a Drill press for the smaller pins later.

For me its less of a capability and more of a tool issue. (im not finding alot on the used market)

Received it a little rusty, But soaked it in a CLR bath and have since put an Alumahyde matte black coating on it to keep from rusting again.

@Sleipnir you ever dive into war rugs? was just reading about them today, seems like something that would work well as a backdrop for all your ak photography

New AK owner. Where is the best online place to get 7.62 ammunition, and what is a fair price range?

Bought a shit ton from Ammoseek.

May be a bad time to buy 7.62x39. Heard biden put a ban on all things imported from Russia.

Damn glad I stay stocked up. 2020 didn't even effect me.

lax ammunition, freedom munition and aim surplus are a few I have used and been reasonable. I haven’t looked much lately but seems to be around .50 cents/rd on average.

Thanks. What magazines should I get in the $20-30 range? Don't want crap, but don't want to overspend for glamour.

In your price range stated I have had great luck with the PMAGs over the years, get the metal reinforced for a little more durability/longevity or non-reinforced for daily plinking / money savings.

X-Tech Tactical, at the upper end of your price range but a good heavy duty mag, also a couple of choices in reinforcement levels. Bulkier than the PMAGs though.

And finally you may want to check out the relativity new Palmetto State Armory Waffle Mags, I have several, they seem sturdy and feed fine, but I haven't had years of testing behind them like the PMAGs and X-Techs.

    Good luck!
