So the dealer is telling me my needle bearing isn't all that bad and I should do the drop. I'm going to order the ecgs bushing and do that, but has anyone done the drop and what were your results.

You can keep an eye out for the tools on the b/s/t marketplace. Just pay for the shipping, once done pass it along to the next person.

Hit up @Unchained 5150. Good guy, been letting others borrow both tools. Once done pass to the next in line.

The only "results" I remember was a guy on here who did the diff drop and then hit something he normally wouldn't have and put a big ole hole in something important..... If I remember right, the diff drop on our 2nd gens only rotates the diff anyway.

What do you mean for rear diff drop?

Edit:... nevermind I see in you description you have the CB drop, I'm assuming that's what you mean.

For the record, there has been ONE failure(~7 years ago)caused by a modified skid plate on a RACE TRUCK during a RACE where he slammed into a rock while RACING.

The diff drop does in fact improve cv angles on the 2gen Tacoma.

Thanks for sharing, that's way more change in CV angle than I would have thought... Any extra weight or is it all from the drop kit?

I can't do it due to AM skid... the ECGS bushing solved my issues anyway. Just to clarify, was that one failure due to RACING?

It's possible that it was caused by RACING

    Someday...
I did the diff drop on my 2012. This was based on a planned two inch lift (OME 884s + Billies). Just didn't want to think of my u-joints being taxed with the lift.

Diff drop is for idiots. Can't believe a dealer would give such horrible advice.
It does extremely little for your cv angle (which are rather cheap to replace anyway) but fucks up your drive shaft angle and gives you bad lubrication. Don't!

I installed a diff drop and cb drop when I installed my lift 5 years ago. I've never had a problem with my cv's after years of pretty heavy wheeling. It doesn't cause any problems and it DOES help with CV angles.

Correct in the fact that the one documented failure is because of the guy racing. I wish I could find the thread, because I find it hilarious. The guy modified his skid plate in the worst possible way. It had two 3"x3" squares hanging down an inch from the rest of the skid plate. OBVIOUSLY it has potential to catch on something. He caught it on something, and ripped it all to shreds.

I'm an advocate for diff drops, but I disagree with the pic Justin posted. You can see by the angle of the LCA that both pictures were not taken on level ground. It looks like the first pic has the tire drooped down, causing the CV angle to look worse.

The diff drop does help, but not THAT much. Enough however that it's worth the ~$30.

I did the different drop... It did help the angles, but I will be removing it. Getting ready for Toyota roundup and don't want to take any chances of hitting something, and doing the bushing
