I just bought a GX460. I’ve had a couple 3rd gen Tacomas, a couple 5th gen 4Runners and now this GX. Downside to GX is it uses premium gas. Rides similarly to 4Runner but more plush, quieter and just much nicer. I didn’t get the Blackline because you can’t get the Mark Levinson system with it. That was a deal breaker for me. I will tell you that the 6 speed in the GX with the V8 is much less annoying than the Tacoma. I tow my SXS and it’s way better for that. If I ever get a Tacoma again it will be a manual.

Oh that’s a bummer. The press release info said it came standard with the Mark Levinson system. I can’t seem to figure out any options on the Black Line like if you can get captain’s chairs in the second row. I don’t think Lexus can figure it out either from the looks of their very sparse info.

I own an ‘06 GX470 with about 350K km’s on it, had it for 6+ years. Full Icon set up etc… on 285/75/17’s.
I also own a ‘21 Taco OR Premium.
My “old” GX is 10 times the vehicle the Taco will ever be. I love every moment behind the wheel of that vehicle.

We needed a second vehicle, the wife wanted a Taco so that was that. Two weeks into owning it she decided she prefers the GX…

Well word is they may offer the ML in the Black Line later, but definitely not now. I looked at all the models and packages and think the Premium Plus is the best package…..but that’s just me.

i totally agree with you on the best one. My problem is I’m “Mr. Cash Buyer” and so I only have X amount of dollars. I set the money aside for the Taco when I ordered it last year. But no truck is coming… so just seeing what else is out there for my price point prior to 2023 model year Tacomas. A Lexus would be a stretch, but the Special edition fits into my budget…. barely. And only if I don’t pay over MSRP.

I think the black line and a premium plus are very similar in price actually. I got mine for MSRP, so that’s actually a good deal. Cast a wide net and I’m sure you can find either for about 61k.

I like SUV's, but you couldn't pay me to drive a newer model GX460. Older ones? Sure. The newer ones look like a Subaru Outback on stilts with an extended forehead. A fivehead. Also, they basically have the grille equivalent to John Delorean's post plastic surgery chin.

    Hard pass.

Usually, if a vehicle is very capable, I'll overlook a lot... but that thing doesn't even get a second look from me. Avoid eye contact and get the Taco. Or, a Tundra. I'd get a cheaper Tundra closer to the size of the SUV before I got a Taco Pro.

Ironman Foamcell 3" lift, ARB dual compressor, GoPro mount, BadElf mount, Drive grab handle, RCI skids, Victory sliders, half rack, TuffStuff Alpha ll RTT, Dometic 75 Fridge, extra USB & Outlets
    I had a 06 GX470, girlfriend has a 15 GX460 purchased new. I sold my GX470 to get a 2020 Tacoma TRD OR, couldn’t see spending the money on a Pro.

The GX470 was a nice vehicle, but I didn’t like the seating position, drivers side was bad, passenger side suck for taller people. Did ok on MPG, but not as good as my 2013 JKUR. I liked the GX470, but it never seemed like the vehicle I really wanted. My GX had a 3” Radflo lift, steel front and rear bumper, full skid plates, but I was a not big fan of the traction control system. Also my GX470 lost 3-4 mpg when I put the Demello front bumper on it.

The stock GX460 does good on MPG, about 1-3 better than my Tacoma depending on the drive, can easily get 19-22 doing 70 mph, when I need to stay around 60-65 to get that in my Tacoma. The seats are great in the 460, love the way it drives. The 15 is the top of the line for that year, the ML stereo is great and nav system is ok, it lacks simple stuff like USB outlets, which sucks on trips. In the winter we put snow tires on it and it is fantastic. Oh, the front bumper catches everything and cleaning the rear door sucks.

I like driving my Tacoma a lot more than the GX470. I am not 100% happy with the Tacoma, but it feels right, plus there are too many times I need the pickup bed for hauling stuff. With the GX, it seemed I was always hooking up a trailer. I don’t miss the GX470 at all, except maybe the option to sleep in the back. I have always liked pickup, so that could be it.

I have a small camping trailer I pull and I am thinking that the Tacoma will work harder to pull it than the GX470 did, especially off road. I wonder about the MPG pulling it, both GX’s would loose abou 3-5 mpg pulling any trailer, guessing the wind coming off the GX went right into the trailer.

    This.

People have got to stop paying ADMs. I've seen too many posts around here listening to people justify being robbed. Stop. The. Madness.

    gx460 for the win.

i've had two tacomas and a 4runner, and now the gx.

gx better in every department, besides not having a truck bed. but that's what utility trailers are for.

Agreed 1000%. We drive the market. We need to just say that’s enough.

Inventories are way up, and now I’m bombarded by dealers trying to make their last minute January sales and now already I’ve had five Toyota dealers and three Lexus dealers contact me today. Things really are reversing course and we need to stop paying extra. That can’t be the new normal. Everyone acts like they are a Tesla dealership and they don’t negotiate. Then they take more and more and more.

Yeah. I was confusing it with the LX570 for some reason.

We all have. It is probably because the LX 570 is based on the USA Landcruiser (which Toyota discontinued) and the GX is based on the international Landcruiser Prado. I used to have trouble keeping them straight as well. But it got pounded into my head for the last 30 years. Haha.

We've owned and had most of the late model Toyotas. The gx460 I currently daily is one of my favorites. The 2016 Tacoma got pretty good mileage even running 35's and the interior was nice, but the lack of power was disappointing.

This is the info I come here for!
My family is outgrowing my Taco as our main car. I don't trust our '02 Volvo driving long distances. I just inherited a '97 Silverado that will be my work truck, so time to sell my '17 OR. The plan is GX for me and electric whatever for my wife. Fishing, camping, and road trips over 150 miles with the dog will be in the GX. City driving will be in whatever plug-in my wife chooses.
Now, if I can only stretch the budget to an LX :)
