has anyone changed their stance from really disliking it upon initial release to, it's not so bad or actually like it now that it's been shown in public and more widely viewable?

I know opinions are strong around here, but I'm curious.

I just don't know why they have to put such a big motor in it. Why can't we have a V twin instead?

Sorry I dropped my sarcasm indicator on the ground!

To be on topic I'm curious how it feels in person. I like the design and the specs so far.

I think a 650cc single piston would have done just fine.

This response is only on looks for the moment. Not driveline or features, just the wrapping.

Admittedly I've not seen one in person yet. (but have not gone to dealer looking either), so I have to admit I don't really know.

Anecdotally, back in '15 everyone said I'd warm to the 3rd gen looks after a bit. Yea, well, still waiting.

But it would have to be a total package sizzler to get me to let go of that much money for how I use a truck. My '13 5 lug still does all I need. With only 44k and no payments, it looks super. :D

I am interested in seeing a Stout if they actually appear. Maybe.

I don’t understand how anybody thinks it even looks THAT different than the 3rd gen which seems to pretty much be universally accepted as a great-looking truck. Tundra vs last gen is clearly a big departure but deff not this Tacoma vs the 3rd gen, IMO.

Agreed and I actually like the looks of the gen4 a lot but love my gen3 so I’m in no hurry for a gen 4 until after it’s been out a year or two and a little longer in the tooth :D

The vehicle hasn’t hit the market yet.
I’m excited for an Xtra cab manual transmission.

I don't disagree and I would suggest that it appears different enough on its own that it SEEMS like a drastic change. However, when viewed next to the 3rd gen, that is where you can really see that while it has changed, not as much as initially believed.

    for example...

hood lines aren't that far off...same design inside the grille, just a different overall size/shape...similar angles on parts of the bumper...yes, the new fender flares are more pronounced...but overall, it really isn't so wild.

I don't think that combo is going to exist, would be nice though.

Been a click above neutral on the exterior and stoked about the interior. Mostly drawn in by the fact this is not an 18 year old platform with a downgraded shit 6 minivan motor. Rather an actual performance turbo hybrid.

The 4G is going to rip. And i hate to say it, but just like the 2G, it’s going to make the predecessor look like a flinstone vehicle. Nostalgia is nice, but time to move on.

Gonna have to be a pretty dang compelling argument to get me to trade in a perfectly good 2nd gen for 5 years worth of car payments.

It doesn’t, they just went more even machismo. Took me years to warm up to the 3rd Gen styling, and still think the grill is kinda dumb looking when I walk up to mine. So they made the grill smaller on the 4G and went ape shit with everything else. It’s growing on me, but still think it is ugly. Where they knocked it out of the park with the new Land Cruiser. Would have been cool if we got a truck version of that.

Specs on the drivetrain and chassis look great, but more concerned about efficiency than all out power, judging by the competition mpgs are going to be the same or worse…so while the changes are good, they are not enough to make me want to run out and buy one, that and they killed the access cab. That was a major turn off. Dunno…probably do a full size or maybe Transit/Sprinter next, and keep the 3rd Gen.

I'm having fun building my 3rd gen, but that new Land Cruiser definitely has my attention.
