Who has had a major failure with the 1GRFE V-6??

    I am curious about the conclusion of a damaged valve guide. A rare happening, even with a head gasket issue.

    Same here. I should have the head out by the end of the day and I’m interested to see what’s really going on with the head.

    It burned coolant and oil and had excessive valvetrain noise. So far there’s a lot of oil that came up into the intake manifold on cylinder 6

    Well.. heads are out of the vehicle. Headgasket didn’t look bad and I’m at a standstill with the heads. Not sure where the issue was/is

    Did you check them with a straight edge, for flatness? Just because the head gasket doesn't look bad, doesn't mean it isn't. Especially with your year model.

    I haven’t yet. Just looked at the valves to see if I could diagnose the excess valve train noise. I’ll have to pick up a straight edge tomorrow morning and look at it. All 4 heads are down at the machine shop getting some love. Now just making a list of things to replace while I’m in there
