I haven't had mine stolen. Finally installed a pop & lock last summer on my 06. Before having the pop & lock, I always feared having mine stolen.

While a pop & lock and a hose clamp are not theft proof, they will slow down a thief. Most thief's like to be quiet and quick. Anything to slow them down might be enough of a deterrent for them to move on. Backing up to a wall or pole if available, wouldn't give them any clearance to open the tailgate enough to get it off.

If you are in an area where that is a common occurrence, perhaps having the gate hooked up to the alarm system would also work.

They got it to fit by cutting some of the plastic off. Seeing that you bought it already, and if you bought it online, it may be too much hassle to return it. Might be worth looking at that thread to see how others have modified it.

Putting a clamp on the other side is not needed because I believe it's already solid on that side. All you will do is scratch it up.

Co worker had his tailgate stolen at work. Thankfully I was on vacation or mine would have been stolen as well.

Because of that I installed the automatic pop and Lock.

Some guy at Costco was opening my tailgate when I walked up, he had groceries and got into a Tundra but still made me realize how quick some one could steal it.

I put a Pop N' Lock on yesterday and today am doing the tail gate anti-theft mod for fun.

Sorry to all those who have had there's stolen!

Did you ask him "why he was opening your tailgate"? Someone can take your tailgate in under 30 seconds. You'd be surprised when walking in a parking lot and seeing how many Tacoma's don't have Pop Locks on them.

I was at the store the other day and I parked next to a Tacoma that the tail gate was beat all up. I went in and got a few things. I had two guys walking out in front of me when they walked by my truck they pulled on the handle to see if it would open. The one guy said its locked and walked by and got into that beat up one. I think if I did not have a lock and it being locked they would have tried to take it.

I would have walked out and said "nice try a-shole". He shouldn't be even touching someone else's truck.

i was to far away to say any thing to them. i tried to get to them at a stop light to say something but i was thinking about it. i had a hand gun with me in my pocket. so if i would have went after them to say something i would have been in the wrong. i did take a picture of the back of the truck to get the plate but the picture did not come out clear and you could not see it. i did see a cop at a store and told him. i seen two guys try and open my tail gate but it was locked and got in a truck just like mine with the tail gate messed up and drove off. the cop said they did not take it so i cant do any thing to them. if i did not have it locked and they opened to try and steal it. i would have stopped them with a bang.

Not wise to say that, even as a joke. If you shoot somebody stealing a truck part, you're almost certainly going to jail. If you discharge a weapon as a warning in a grocery store parking lot, you're almost certainly going to jail. Nothing good can come from this.

When you walk around with a hammer in your hand, it's amazing how many nails you find that need a little tap to make right. Without the hammer, you would pass on by and not give them a second thought.

You can't tell me that anyone who comes up to someone else's vehicle(stranger) to "fiddle" with the tailgate, truck, hood, door handle is up to something good.

Yeah! Good idea(sarcasm). Lip off some strangers who are trying to steal your stuff. That doesn't sound very smart. For all you know they could have been carrying.

Nice analogy, but I prefer "I would rather have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it".
