I've just finished installing the mentioned CAI on my Taco, but i think it's too noisy at the cabin. Is it normal?

Yes. Is the 77 the one with the metal intake arm? If so it'll be even louder than the plastic armed intake, which is already loud.

    Comfortable?

I had both the plastic and metal K&N intakes on my old FJ at one point. The metal one was much louder.

Did it make any noticable difference in power or mileage?

Out of curiosity, what is the purpose of an aftermarket CAI on these? Is there a tune out there that makes use of the additional air flow, or is this just for sound?

I had an APR CAI on my gti, but without a tune there were no noticeable gains in performance.

I cant say for the 3.5l since I dont have an aftermarket intake on my truck. The old 4.0 felt like it had a bit more pull at the top end, but it also felt like it had a loss of low end power in the summer. Heat soak most likely.

I just pulled my K&N plastic model off due to the noise. It definitely added power but I am fairly certain your ECM will compensate for increased airflow with increased fuel so no there is no MPG increase with these, at least I did not notice any. Very fun to have when you are trying to enjoy the roar but when you are just trying to cruise and the truck has to downshift *cough* it gets old. I also have the Magnaflow exhaust and at more than 50% throttle the engine would drown out the exhaust!

Yeah, everything is proportionate in the intake. so unless you are cramming so much air in that your injectors cannot compensate (which will cause you too run lean and F-up your engine), you will not get amazing mileage benefits. the trick is to drive ultra-conservatively but that extra "growl" is going to keep you from doing that.

There are two things CAIs do on naturally aspirated Tacomas:
    1. Delete the resonator in the OEM intake so the engine sounds louder.
    2. Some CAI models space out the MAF sensor a bit more.

Basically, installing a CAI then complaining it's too loud is crazy talk :p
