Yeah its 50 states approved up to 1999. Just called LCE today and their CARB approval is for up to 1999 versions since CA 3rz's 2000+ have dual cats. I'm an unlucky CA resident. But glad I was somewhat lucky to have a single cat version.

    Basically...

    up to 1999 = 50 states approved
2000+ with single cats = 49 states approved
2000 + with dual = needs modification (1st cat delete) to even work, unsure of smog legality at that point.

Gotcha. This is one of the reasons I left Huntington Beach after 40+ years there. F'n CA.

If it wasn't for what they pay linemen here (strong union) i'd be gone myself, so I get it!

Indeed! Mini header is drop it

Per my OP - I just assumed I had dual cats as a 2000 truck, but then I checked and was happy to remember this was a Nevada truck originally with single cats! LCE is looking like the decision knowing I don't have to modify cats. I saw your posts about it lowering torque curve which is HUGE for these 2.7s

Oh nice line of work. No pun. They pay you guys well up here in OR if ya ever want to get out. Just avoid Portland. They have a lineman training center up the street from me, high demand.

I’m almost certain the LCE header is CA compliant all the way until they started adding dual cats.

I’m just going off what LCE told me directly yesterday when I asked for clarification.

All Tacomas in CA up to 1999 = single cat

All Tacomas outside of CA up to 2000 = single cat

All Tacomas 01-04 dual cat no matter which state

LCE told me because of CA’s specific law change for the year 2000 models, their CARB number (if looked up by a tech) will only show valid for 1999 year and prior trucks if the header is installed.

Will a tech catch this? Idk. Again, this is just what LCE told me.

It is a weird grey area since there’s limited amounts of non-CA Tacoma 2000 trucks with single cats. But I’ll ask DMV since I always pass smog with flying colors

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Stuff like that, that isn't defeating the spirit of the laws in place but is just a 1 year mistake or whatever often gets overlooked. A decent SMOG shop isn't going to cite you for that, same thing happens every year for my buddy with TRD headers on his 5VZ... they're only good to 2003 but he has a 2004... there's nothing different about those model years even the ECU is the same haha.

incredibly dumb, but I get why LCE is so specific - takes one person who doesn’t pass smog to come unglued lol.

I don’t mind pulling it off to avoid the hassle - but my shop may be cool with it.

I just wasn’t willing to do a cat delete (thought I had dual cats).
