It’s making 0 boost at WOT with this snorkel. I believe the bypass valve on the supercharger is not closing due to insufficient airflow.

So I took the cover off and cut down my hose at the box. I resealed it with gasket maker and then drove it after it all cured. Final result is I'm getting regular boost now. This is again not scientific, but in comparison to not having a cover on the box and after cutting the hose elbow down with a utility knife. It drives identical at this current time.

I did the same modification over the weekend and still ZERO boost. This snorkel is shit!! I contacted Uptop earlier last week and let them know about the airflow issue and asked them for airflow data. They still haven’t responded.

I ran a quick test/datalog and compared it to one of my old datalogs with the stock intake and according to the MAF readings the snorkel is providing roughly 63% less airflow vs the stock intake.

    Snorkel max MAF reading: 155.84 g/sec @ 5303 RPM.

Previous datalog at comparable RPM and throttle position was 254.03 g/sec @5296 RPM.

both of these were at WOT.

The runs weren’t identical/perfect conditions, but I don’t think that would make that much of a difference. That’s why I’m comparing at a comparable RPM and throttle position. Just a rough comparison.

I’m looking forward to hearing from Uptop. I’d like to know what their test results were.

It looks cool as shit I'll give you that, but that is quite possibly the most restrictive intake in anything I've ever seen even comparing to stock.

ARB actually delayed the release of their Safari snorkel for the Tacoma because they needed to rework it to provide more volume for the stock engine itself, as well as they wanted to provide no restrictions for supercharged applications.

It's very very apparent that Uptop Overland's focus was purely aesthetics and I doubt they had a fluid engineer at all in development with this product.

All for the gram, just show no go.

Is the ARB ugly? Yeah, but it performs great. I actually gained 1 mpg with the Safari Snorkel.

One would think that a company designing a snorkel would perform airflow testing. Lesson learned for sure. Should have asked for airflow specs prior to purchase.

I just returned mine. I had only opened the tape on the main box itself (just to inspect the contents). They were skeptical that their design was flawed. And I got to pay a 20% restocking fee. :bananadead:

They clearly have no such data. I am not going to start a flame war over the $165 (from restocking fee) that I am out. But someone who actually installed this snorkel with before and after data that shows it is defective by design, absolutely should.

Hmmm. I was thinking about getting one since my 5 year old and Wife egg me on to do dumb stuff. I like how it mounts to the rack opposed to the pillar.

maybe a Dobinsons is the answer.

My 5 year old daughter was chanting “cross the river” in this video!

Everyone stand by before passing judgement. I have spoken to uptop. Going to the dyno for real numbers. Will post video and data of stock oem, uptake add on as is, modified uptake. I think it's obvious uptop is not trying to screw anyone over. Adjustments will be made if needed, but let me do a dyno for this to lay out baseline numbers. If any of you have worked with Micah and Drew you know they are good people.

No dude. Lol. I'm just saying it doesn't specify anything other than factory. Believe me, I wish I could take evey statement like that to oem and beat them over the head with it.

Sure it doesn't say supercharged but it does imply they did real testing with flow data and hard numbers to back it up, which doesn't sound like that is the case. It looks cool which is what matters to 90% of Tacoma instagram overlanders.

By the way, you’ll want to pull the 2 abs fuses (50amp and 30amp) before doing the run on the dyno. If you don’t HP may be limited.
