I agree; I'd imagine someone doing independent testing would just say it worked as advertised or worked better than advertised if it simply just worked. I'm willing to be wrong though, and hope to be, but I'm with ya here.

Well, I ran with the magnuson tune a week earlier and can tell you that it's not the same (315 hp as you stated), it just doesn't compare to the new tune. This whole event was to test the snorkel and I would say that any snorkel w SC would have the same problems. But what do I know....I'm just laying it out there from what my setup is. I looked for data to prove a point and make it better. Not bash anyone or company.

After the testing I did, I'll believe it when I see the data.

Would be nice to see the same CFM/AF data from Uptop (even if from a screenshot). I have not. However, I doubt anyone is actually testing this under SC applications. Maybe we need someone with a NA engine do a dyno run with it?

If Uptop wants to send me one and pay for a dyno session, I'll volunteer :anonymous:

They sent me a non modified one (I cut the flange off mine inside the box) to test theirs as new. It's the one in the video that I tested. It showed the AF mix was good and consistent, but the HP was down based on where the SC HP should be. That's of course with the SC sucking in a lot of air. It's why I think it's better to be run with a stock engine like yours. I have boxed up their snorkel and am sending it back today, but I'll recommend they have someone else do it also! (hint....you!) lol.

"Featuring the new ARMAX design, the new Toyota Tacoma snorkel for the 3rd generation model is the start of a new generation of raised air intakes from Safari Snorkel. Tested and verified on an airflow bench, each ARMAX design ensures that the airflow through the snorkel meets or exceeds that of the factory inlet design. This ensures that if the owner wishes to increase their engine’s performance (ECU, exhaust, forced induction), the snorkel will meet those needs while providing the cold, clean air that is a standard benefit from any Safari Snorkel model. The SS172HP ARMAX outperforms the CFM flow of other brand Tacoma application snorkels by 10%."

The ECU will adjust the fuel based on the MAF reading so the AFR looking good doesn’t mean it’s getting proper airflow. I’ve logged the data. The airflow is a lot less than the stock intake. I have a feeling it’s not even enough for an NA engine.

That makes sense! As you know I've modified mine and have made recommendations. Think they'll come out with a new design or adjustments. Also ran mine in a heavy rain storm today for 3 hrs on the highway. No issues with water leaks in my mod.

I haven’t done anything else to mine yet. I just removed the piping under the fender for now, basically returning it to stock. The snorkel is just an ornament covering the hole on my fender until I decide what to do. :anonymous::annoyed:

I'm a long time observer on tacomaworld but had to make an account to post this. This thread needs more attention and I'm glad I found it. I'm pretty upset after spending $1000 on this snorkel is honestly junk. My 2019 tacoma does not have a super charger but there is a noticeable difference in the performance once I install the snorkel.

First, the threaded pieces on the body broke with barely any pressure. Not sure what plastic they used to make these but I can tell you from my experience it is CHEAP! Used some epoxy to hold it together.

Second, the performance. My engine is not performing at all near at what is used to be. YES. It is a tacoma but this is a huge difference in acceleration.

After contacting uptop multiple times I was unable to return the snorkel. There was a restocking fee of 20 percent on this piece of junk plastic. MOST IMPORTANTLY they could not or will not provide any testing information. Guess what? I'm a mechanical engineer and understand a few things. I spoke with their "engineer" per say and this guy is not licensed at all or do I believe he has a degree in engineering. IF he does, there is a ton of things he would need to show before I believe a word from him.

The only positive thing is yes the body and design looks pretty cool but the functionality is 3/10. Going to leave it like @SK808 did with the tubing not attached.

Save your money, go buy a tested product like a safari instead.

I have a few grand put into Uptop accessories on the rig and a few more in the cart ready to go. I love my rack. I've been down to the shop a couple times too. Alot of nice people over there at Uptop. Quality labor as well.

With that said, I'm subbing to see how this is handled and waiting on my next purchase. CS, product quality and data are important to me as a customer.

@upTOPoverland I'm sure many have directly asked, but just in case you're not following the thread, do you have plans to release your snorkel data, or repeat testing to lay rest these claims? Seems alot of us here are rooting for you, have hopes of buying your snorkel pending testing, and want to see you succeed (with every product I mean).

Got an email saying they are making changes and going to test with a 4 inch diameter tubing and elbow.
Also I purchased all uptop last year so....no freebie here or I'd ask. Lol

Yeah this won't change much and any engineer who has taken intro to physics in college would tell you to look at Bernoulli's principle to see just making the tubing larger isn't going to do much for flow with the bottle neck at the intake and their top piece.

I did a simple search through the National Society of Professional Engineers there isn't anyone attached to uptop with a real background ME or any engineering as a matter of fact. Results showed ZERO.

Would like to know the actual plastic they used because the mounting locations should not be breaking like they did on mine if they were properly constructed.
