Did well enough in high school that college was free for me. Parents used some of the college savings to buy my truck for me. Seems fair.

What do you guys think about big down payments? I put 10 grand down on my truck when I bought it. Some of my friends say i was crazy to put that much down on a vehicle but I plan on keeping my truck long after she is paid off and plus the monthly payment would of been $200 more a month which would of been to high down the road because me and the girlfriend are planing on buying a house soon and plus i took off 10 grand off the principal so wouldn't I be saving myself on interest also?

    +1

The saying that got me to change my ways was "...paying interest on a depreciating asset is a losers game...". Can't remember exactly where I heard it from now (to properly give it credit,,, no pun intended of course) but it stuck with me.

for those that are still paying....you should look at splitting your payment up and making a partial payment every paycheck. ie, if you payment is 400 per month, pay 200 every other week, or 100 per week if you are paid weekly.

not only will you pay it off faster due to paying down the principal quicker, you will actually make 13 paymets per year vs. 12.

I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
I drove a Ford Focus for a few years saving to buy this truck. YEARS. It was a 4 door, the passenger side door didn't open at all, the back windows didn't go down at all, it flooded when it rained, there would litterally be 8" of water on the passenger side floor and one time it was completely submerssed in water for about a half hour. Proud to say I paid off my truck in 8 months.

Really don't see the point in this thread:confused:. For those that are fortunate to have a paid off truck, good for you. Some are not as fortunate and have to finance. I don't see a point of broadcasting it here.

I need 2 vehicles. I work on the 4 year rotation schedule. I buy a new vehicle and pay it off in 4 years. I then buy another vehicle and pay that off in 4 years. Each vehicle needs to last at least 8 years.

If the first vehicle is working fine, I put the car payment into an account to reduce the payoff time when I replace it. This has worked since about 1982 until I bought a POS 1991 Plymouth minivan. I was starring at a 3rd transmission at 66,000 miles. It threw my schedule off but I'm back on it now.

I leased one vehicle in my life and it was the worst financial move ever. I WILL NEVER LEASE A VEHICLE EVER AGAIN!
