Just paid off my house 20 years early today. YEAY FOR ME! All I got is my cell phone and internet bill and a few insurance and investment bills, water, power, rent (on a different house the other one is rented out while i'm in hawaii) and costco membership, professional dues, my wife, damn. I need to get off the grid.

Have a friend at work that got sick of paying bills. Has same attitude as I but is single. Just threw $5k at his cell phone provider and forgot about it. Paid his cable for 3 years (remaining duration of job) and his entire lease up front. Wish I had the self control to do that.

I was about to say yes they're hiring, but there's a "company" freeze on promotions and very little hiring right now. A much deserved freeze I might ad. I do very little work for the money I get and I do a lot more than everyone I know. And right now I'm sitting on a 3 week mandatory vacation. Filling my chair with farts. As for who employs me and what I do, I don't work for the military, but I do have some working for me. I'm quite sure I'm the only guy in the US with my job description, since I'm the local boss and its a small site... I have a broad job description. Pretty much anything that comes up is mine to deal with.

you know how it is... Nothing interesting, just can't talk about it. Like the hamburger flipper in the CIA cafeteria, he still can't talk much about work... maybe.
whatever, you get it. Turns out my real name isn't phil phictional either.

I made my bed and now I'm going to lay in it. I hope to continue working hard at my job so I can increase my payments and get out of the hell hole that is debt. The 1997 Ford F-150 my parents bought me in High School would probably have north of 200K on it by now and have gone through at least 2 transmissions but I would probably still have more money in the bank than I do now.

The person who thought up credit is a genius. Human nature is wanting something for nothing, and credit fits naturally.

This thread is extremely entertaining though. Hearing people go back and forth on whether financing is good or not. In an absolutely ideal situation we would have $10K reliable trucks that are paid off with all of our money going into a CD or investment account that causes our money to grow exponentially every month. Too bad not everyone can be there. My parents have been absolutely frugal with their money my entire life, I hope to be in a similar spot to them at some point in my young life.

Those payments after 48 months are really going to suck...after 60 really really suck.....making "nre car ' payments on a 5 year old truck for 2 more years...ouch Why why why....do people do this to themselves?

They have 84 month loans? ON CARS!? There wasn't even an option for that when I bought mine. They signed me up for 48 or something. I think 6 years was as crazy as it got.

I've NEVER owned a car for 84 months. Maybe My mom kept a car that long once.

They HAVE to...The thought of making a "new car payment" on a five year old vehicle is right up the dealer's alley when they start receiving those "get a new truck for the same payment or less" brochures..

And thus how otherwise wise people become victims of the "perpetual carpayment that never ends......$400 x 12 30 years...compounded loss of opportunity....ouch $200,000+ spent on car payments with nothing but a single depreciated vehicle to show for it after 30 years... That is assuming no inflation.... Thats a second home..a college education..a business a lot more than a lone 2033 Toyota Tacoma.

Nothing seems cheaper than the first few car payments...and more expensive than the last few car payments . for many there are no "last car payments"

What did you buy that you still had 3 years of $330 payments after putting $30,000 down? I guess you probably meant $3K
