Why don;t you open up an account and loan yourself the money to buy your own truck for another 4 years at $500 a month THEN with your truck and your cash you can buy a new one and never need a bank loan again for a vehicle as long as you keep paying...AND STILL HAVE OVER $10 grand left over. I will bet you think twice before plopping down $28 Gs of your saved money for a new truck next time around. Been doing this since I was 25 and never had a vehicle payment to any bank account but my own and as a bonus there is enough in there now to buy a truck and a half in that account alone!! But I have buy used vehicles nowadays for me and new for the wife....and still make payments to that account. I use it as well now for maintenance and to pay off the insurance bills when they are due AND even fuel.

Bottomline is You can save over $24,000 in the next 48 months making that payment to yourself.....You already proved you can afford it!!

That wont be happening on this side of the fence for a very long time,,maybe never again. To many very good used vehicles out there for way less money.

$28-32g's for a new truck is a monumental ripoff in my eyes.

I financed $16K back in 99 when I bought mine,,wish I never would have financed. live and learn.

I'm hoping to start doing this when I'm done paying mine off, I'm paying over a grand a month, pay whole thing off in 2 years so I'll have only actually paid the bank 1600$ in interest when all is said and done. Thats a number I can live with and i think i'm doing pretty good for being so young

Not here to brag about my paid off cars or how anyone should manage their money. There are lots of investment options that will pay off better and putting money away in a bank account every month for your next car may not work for everyone, especially in this economy.

I have a savings account with around $2,000 in it. It earned 3 cents two months ago, and 5 cents last month. While a savings account may be better than keeping it in a shoebox under the bed, that rate won't even earn me $1/yr. I have a $50 transfer to it scheduled every week to give us some emergency money, but only for that and because it's convenient (automatic). I'm not expecting big gains off it. That's why I do 5% into my 401k. The company matches dollar for dollar up to 5%. Makes more sense than the savings account.

So I can see people not using savings accounts as well. They aren't worth it unless you have a lot of money in them and a decent rate. And if you have enough money to get a good return then do you really need to finance a car anyway? Not to mention, will the taxes you pay for having that savings account and interest on the books be more than the interest earned?

Just paid off my student loan with my tax return, now I am doubling up payments for the Tacoma and will pay the balance off with the next return. Then it is time to just add all those payments to the savings account. :)
