I had been anticipating buying new truck for +/- year and saved to cash out needed difference. Purchased 2012 DCSB Prerunner Off Road TRD for $26000, sold 2002 DCSB Prerunner for $15000- cash needed after all fees, CA tax, etc $13,280. For you younger folks I've always thought (as a generalization) for the average working stiff the older you get the easier this is to do as hopefully you have more spendable/savable income in your 50/60's. I remember when I was young my dad bought a new truck and told me he paid cash- told him I was jealous and he told me don't be-for most of us when you can go pay cash for the truck you really want it might be the last one you buy! For me I kinda wish I had a payment and a few less years:).

Paid cash. I could have financed it and done something else with the money to make al ittle money with it but I figured it would be pain in the ash. I like simplicity.

Since I paid cash when I bought mine and have no car payment, I still put a car payment worth of money away in savings each month. So as long as I don't have to prematurely get a new truck I'll be able to pay cash again next time around.

I have about another year and a half of payments but my truck should be paid off much sooner than that. My goal is a year or less. Then after that, within 3 or 4 years, I should be totally debt free other than my house but it should be paid off in about maybe 7 or 8 years.

When I bought it, I put down $18k. They let me put $2k on my credit card to get the points. I too wanted to pay it all instead of writing a check. But they said I could not do it.
