It seems silly to me to tie up your cash in a depreciating asset. With interest rates so low, I use other peoples money to buy the truck and leave my money invested. The investments make more than what I'm paying in interest. If SHTF I could pay the truck off, but if SHTF that hard I'd probably sell it and buy a $1,000 clunker.

Since I tend to keep my vehicles a long time after one is "paid off" I keep making payments to myself. That way I have more money to invest and as a buffer for the zombie apocalypse.

Seems silly to me to pay interest when I can afford to pay cash. If you intend to keep the truck the full length of the finance term and you can afford to pay cash, you're just throwing money in the toilet. I'd rather not have the payment and invest as I see the need with the money I saved monthly.

If, for example interest costs me $1,000 and investments make $1,500 I am losing $500 by using my cash. The other thing to factor in is over time you are making more interest as the investments grow and paying less interest as the balance in paid off. This assumes of course that you have the money to invest, and investments that pay more than the 2.49% you can get at the Credit Union.
