Just paid cash for my 2010. I always pay cash for vehicles--I hate payments. Once you pay cash--you can keep paying cash

My 2010-Access Cab-PreRunner-4 cylinder-5 spd is one month old today (bought it new) and it was paid for at the time of purchase - however I am 62 yrs old. When I bought vehicles in my 20's, 30's, I financed some of them but always put cash of 50% or more of the out the door price into the vehicle at the time of purchase. When I bought my current Tacoma I went by the dealer and they appraised my trade ('09 Camry LE) and gave me a "Cost", or how much cash they wanted with the title for the Camry for me to own the Tacoma - all cost (tax, license tag, title fees) included. I walked away from their offer, waited 3 days, went to the credit union, withdrew cash from my account in a certified check made out to the Toyota Dealership. The check was for several thousand dollars less than their initial offer! I walked in the dealer, laid the title to my Camry and the certified check down in front of the manager. He said, "no way, we will loose money if we accept that offer". I thanked him and proceeded to leave and then the BS started. He wanted to show me the Tacoma invoice and how they would loose money - of course I refused to look at the invoice or any papers he had that he was trying to shove in front of me. The only thing relevant to me was what the new Tacoma was worth to me. He then went the old route of asking me to split the difference between my offer and his. I told him I had one offer and one offer only - the title to the Camry and the certified check he was holding. I then told him he was wasting my time for sure and probably his time also and I left. Before I got to my Camry to drive away he sent a salesman to tell me "OK", they will take my offer. I left with the Truck and all fees paid for. It's funny isn't it - how they liked me so much they sold me a new Tacoma and lost money on it! (Yeah, right!). By the way, this all took place March 1st, 2010 - when Toyota dealers were hurting for sales and recall news articles were at a high - and this dealership (in a small southern town of about 100,000 people) had just over forty new Tacomas on their lot!

Yea... dealership version of loosing money is not getting as much profit as they could get. They always try to show you the invoice and never mention the kickback they get from Toyota Corporate. When they REALLY lose money is when they have trucks on the lot after December 31st.

My wife and I have had many cars and trucks over the years.

    Always pay cash for cars.
Mortgage was paid in 8 years.

Those who understand "interest" earn it, those who do not understand it, pay it.

Couldn't have said it better myself (we paid our house off in just under 8 years as well).
