It's my understanding that the rails for the Access cover are installed under the stock rails, thus their removal during installation. However, they get re-installed over the tonneau rails and are 100% usable.

Nevermind! I see someone else already responded.

But I'd still like to know how the similar Truxedo cover is installed.

Here is a Trxcedo you were asking about. Hopefully the pictures show up. It took me about 30 min to install not bad but I had to remove the tie downs, I was in a hurry to install so I just took them out, but I am going to try and put them back in. this seems to be a very tight fitting cover. It latches at the end by tailgate and locks down, with a rubber piece extending over the top of the tailgate. I love it and would buy another.100_0216_cf5f16a969472429de94349820306445c7319157.jpg

Thanks for posting the pic. The cover looks great. I hate to be dense, but do you have to remove the rails to install the Truxedo, like for the Access cover? What did you mean by "tie downs"? Thanks. I was looking for a cover I could easily install and uninstall (not have to remove rails) for the few times whenever I need the cover.

I did not have to remove the rails but in the rails I have tie down hooks that slide back and forth inside the rails. I had to take those out so I could slide the clamps for the truxedo into the bed rails. I don't plan on uninstalling but if I need the whole bed I just roll all the way to the cab and secure with the straps.

Thanks! I thought that was what you meant, but it seemed to me that you were making a bigger deal about removing the tie downs than you were. So the Truxedo is held by clamps that go in the rails. I think I like that better than the Access approach. Thanks again.

You won't find much below $500 after shipping that aren't the normal soft canvas covers. Unless you run across some really good sale or discount! :D Both my covers were over $550.

Right, but that's a soft canvas (or vinyl) cover like I said. It also goes for $575 on Extang's website so again, like I said about a sale price or other reduction.

I got my Access LE (the LE is the high end of the Access line) for about $380 shipped in Dec. The guy at truckalterations.com gave me a good deal.

I forget who posted it, but I'm not sure I understand the logic of getting a rollup tonneau if you want it to be easy to take on and off. I got a rollup so I don't have to take it off when I need full access to the bed.

You can find a few. But most of them are at least $500. And how much would your's have cost without the deal he gave you? I'm looking at $458 with free shipping at the moment for the very same cover. So it's almost $500. Especially if you end up paying sales tax, and/or shipping.

There are a few simple vinyl covers that velcro or snap for under $500. You want something hard, or folds, or locks then it's gonna be more. I looked for several months before buying my Bakflip, and looked again before replacing that with my Bestop.

No leakage at all. Even in the high pressure car wash. Mine was only $265 shipped.
